At campaign noticed a few Brit teams using this system of calling kills. Is this an Americanised, agg style way of doing it for the sake of coolness, or is there a legitimate reason behind it?

Around here, it is the commonest way to call eliminations, so it is sort of a default. Similarly, "back-left," "center-fifty" and "your mirror" all form a pretty common vocabulary. This sort of thing is nice for those who play with multiple teams, as well as dim players who have a harder time learning calls. Some of the best call systems I have heard have been abandoned due to laziness and prevalence of certain customs like "g" counts, which make it less necessary to master a new protocol every time you play for a diferent team.

not all teams use g calls for kills eather

i know of at least a half dozen teams that use g in reference to the location of an opposition player and the number corresponds to where they are on the field (the field being split into numbered zones) so for example g1 is back left. and that little bunker part way up the opponents side of the field on the right but slightly in field might be g4 thirty

Just realize kids he's talking about Colorado where they also dress for the winter in uncured animal hides, too. No doubt the code for your team's eliminated players is homey1, homey 2, etc.:)
