do the barbs NEED loctiting or is that just an option extra for peace of mind? because if i order some of that stuff it aint goin to arrive for a while after my frm does and i wanna be able to use it in the mean time. if it must be loctited then i will try some normal superglue till the other stuff arrives.

Yes mate, it needs loctiting.
I have had one that didnt seal cause I used crap loctite. Got this stuf and it was fine.
I have ALWAYS loctited mine in after annos

Ps, they also sell loctite in car accessory shops, this stuff is cheaper though.

If he is getting an FRM from Sloth...it should already be loctited in.

Noid end..well...needs Loctite really...preferably Blue, nothing too sticky, as the barbs are only small and too much force on removal is liklely to snap the barb off.
