Forum email problems

I have been having problems with receiving email send via the forums. I have not been receiving notification when I receive a PM or when someone replies to a thread I am subscribed to.

So earlier I sent myself a test email via the forums email interface and again I have not received it. I have checked everything at my end, it is not in my junk mail folder and I have logged in to my incomming mail server and no message has been received, nor has any attempt been made to deliver the message that has been rejected for any reason, I have been through the whole raw maillog file so would have seen if any attempt has been made to deliver it.

So first of all is it just me having problems with forum emails, if so perhaps my account details were corrupted when the forums moved server a while back.

Any help from an administrator would be helpfull.

Also if anyone has been trying to contact me and I have not replied, sorry, either PM me as I can still read those, but I don't know about them untill I next login to the forums, or you can email me using my "alex at teamjolt dot org dot uk" address, sorry about the format but I get enough SPAM as it is.

Regards Alex

I'm using BT Business Broadband. My mail is routed through our website and my IT guy says there's no problem there.

I've even tried deleting my email address in my options page, restarting my PC, loggin back on to the forum and putting it back in.

Still nothing.............

There is definately a problem somewhere and it's not my end...........

not just freeserve

I had the same problem. Don't be tempted to change your notifcation addy. I did and did not receive a new activation email. Result no posting or pm access!
I emailed admin on several occasions and had no reply:mad:
The only way I was able to activate the account again was to set up a yahoo email addy and activated it to that.
It is not an IP thing as I tried several ISP's (dial-up and bb) and several email accounts.
It seems that the forum email system filters some account names, possibly thinking they are spam!
Yahoo mail seems the only workaround at the moment.

Hmm it seems the forums email system is completely shot.

Other things I have noticed include the fact that some users are not able to register with the forums, obviously due to the same problem and even stranger I have received a couple of email notifications telling me a thread I had subscribed to had a new message, but the messages was intended for HPac and it looked like the thread was really old and had probably not actually been replied to recently.

Would a forum administrator care to let us know what is going on or are we all going to have to give up our real email addresses and switch to some crappy yahoo webmail service just 'cause it works on these forms???

Its not the sevrer the forum is hosted on. It IS different ISPs picking up mail relayed from the server as spam without your input. Basically they remove the mail as it is classed as spam to them, irrelevant of if it is classed as spam by you.

AOL, Freeserve, BT etc are all culprits of this.

If it was a problem with mail relaying notifications from the server then no one would get them. As it stands it is only the minority.

Resolution is to set up an account, like Yahoo which currently has no spamming filters set up.

Additionally it isn't just notifications from this forum it has effected but several others which people I know use. Again this is down to the ISP though not the forums in question.

You can give your ISP the IP address of the forums and tell them that mail recieved from this source is not spam, but to be honest the majority of them will not do anything to rectify the situation for you. Don't know if mr Frain got anywhere with Freeserve in the end as I know he was trying to get p8nt taken off of there spam filters?
