USE THE PURPLE ONE LUKE, JUST NOT ON YOUR SISTER

Tyr playing badminton, it is great cardio and builds up stamina. It also works on short burst for the legs (any badminton playeras out there will know)

Most members of the PURPLE WARRIORS play it and it definitely helps with your reaction times.....

Come children, play with the purple one, come watch it grow in your hands...........

No matter how fit your body is, if you do not keep the mind keen and sharp then it will make no difference. Workout, read, progress......:D ;)

My God man you need to come home, also sort out your typing:D

However Badminton is the fastest racket sport and as such increases your reflexes, and as mentioned your stamina, but not your accuracy when firing no matter how big it is:p

Anyway, in a vague attempt to get this thread back onto the topic (wasn't it the Mods who were flaming everyone for digressing...!)

Having given up my sport (rowing) about 2 years ago i have done sweet fa training since. Whilst i shouldn't really be proud of that fact i felt that i deserved a break after training 6 days a week for 48 weeks of the year for 6 years (with bugger all alchohol). However, having played my first tournament in 18 months at the Temple last weekend i now know what a full scale cardiac and asthma attack combined should feel like!!!

Stupidly i ran the flag back in the second game of the day and never really recovered!

In theory you should do a large distance / time at a low intensity to build up base endurance (especially in the off season) and then whilst keeping this base work start building in the sprints. Weights aren't really that necessary for paintball but the ladies do love a bigger guy!

One of the main areas to be improved upon is the trunk of the body by building the abs, transversus abs and lower back muscles you can hold yourself in those awkward positions that we all like to get into (behind bunkers).

Anyway, just my 2p's worth...

badminton, can improve your strength, endurance etc, but for it to improve your reflexe's notably, then you would have to play for god knows how long first, reflexes are generally inherited, and in the case of badminton, you normally seem to have quicker reflexes by adaptinng to an opponents body language. don't take that the wrong way, just thought I'd set the record straight.

personally, I'm more into body sculpting as they put it, but I do train one guy for sport related fitness.

i'd recomend, interval training in 20 min upto half our sessions once or twice a week, combining jogging, quick sprints, and direction changes.

light weights on your bi's and tri's to build endurance and speed to cope with carrying your marker.

legs, again work on quads, and hammies to get quicker off the mark.

and as stan said, back extensions, crunches, side twists, and side bends, and some trunk flexability excersises for when your in the bunkers.

just my 2p worth.

I can't believe people were saying badminton gets you fit....

Seriously, the only way to get fit is to work. I was a lazy, smoking, drinking, worthless, slug for about 5 years and it is TOUGH to get back in shape. I am finally getting to where I used to be, and that is after 8 months of working out. Now I can finally see myself progressing. Paintball is an intense sport, wait, let me clarify, Tourney Ball is intense. You can't have dsigusting fat bodies woddling onto the field and expect to do well. Well, comparatively speaking to people of the same talent who are in shape. I personally believe everyone should work out at least 3 times a week. Not just for paintball, but for over all fitness. **end rant**

Let the purple one take you
:D

At the end of the day, anything that imporves you physical and mental (although i do believe that some people will never develop mental fitness) is good. Push yourself a little further every day..

If all else fails, try a large caliber hand gun and a few rounds...... and hope to hit the grey matter

Work out on the Purple one:D ;)

Concur with badminton on the reflexes - you aren't just born with pre-set reflex (although some people are natually quicker than others), you can train them too.

After 3 years of fencing, I was at a restaurant when a waiter brushed by the table and knocked a wine glass off - I managed to catch it with my off-hand and put it back on the table without a spillage before I'd realised it. Both waiter and my dinner companion just stared at me with this "WTF?" expression on their faces for a few seconds. Then after a long lay off I reached out to catch a book falling from a shelf, and it was like some comic slo-mo

"Nnnnnooooooooooooooooo . . . . . . . shhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiii" as the book sailed past my outstretched and hopelessly mis-timed hand.

Plus, I saw a Badminton championship on Sky Sports recently, and I refuse to believe that people are that fast naturally - they have to train. :)

I agree

and my article has got some reflex drills in for everyone...

And Stan, we never flamed anyone for digressing, we had a quiet word with a few people who were posting e-mail-type threads...show me a thread over 20 posts long that doesn't digress for a while at some point and I'll show you a Brit with good teeth...:D
