Just a point, you're playing at Battlegrounds yeah? You ready for your paint bills to go up 3x as soon as you start using an Ion? However well you start off, however much you say 'Ill just be careful', youll still use 3x as much paint as you used to...

Are you thinking of getting into tourneys? There are none in Scotland, the nearest you'll get are walkons with the Keltics/Clan in Edinburgh monthly which are good fun, but to actually play tournaments you'll be travelling to England.

So guys why the Ion? For a younger beginner player? Why has it become the marker of choice? Apart from it being an excellent cross-over marker, good at either rec-ball or tourney, things like price afterwards compared to a decent mech. marker through paintbills etc should be factored in...

As for getting air, Aberdeen Watersports has a deal setup through us, contact us before you go fill up and we'll let you know. With CO2 either use Battlegrounds stuff, or take out a subscription with BOC (what I did when I first started), £40 yearly to hire a tank, then £10-£20 per fill, and each fill should last about 20 tanks... So make your mates pay for it, and it should be an okay way of doing it...

Trust what he says, 1200 paintball last time at battlegrounds - last time i played i used approx 300  yes i know this means i'm better, cooler bigger willy etc but the point is with an ion, angel, ego etc you will go through paint like it was air.

If you want to have a go with these guns AUPS has ego's, ions, wraths, omen, angel, impulse, mech cockers A5's between the members i'd be happy for you to have a go with my kit and i'm sure the other would to.

For battle grounds you don't need a ego, is good for intimidation but paint bill mounts up. Its up to you though mate.

+ for the £400 for the up'd ion you could get an angel 05 speed, ego, shocker. Just pointing out for the money you could get a better gun as even for £400 you still get the stock ion trigger.

Hope this helps.

Basically it comes down to 'needs' and 'wants', as in what do you need, is it different from what you want?

Bear in mind that after youve been five times to Battlegrounds its free entry, so why not save £200 and then spend it their instead, rather than having an expensive wall hanging until your next allowance?

this 'beauty' is a total rip off, for that price you could get a far superior marker - a bloody ego for a start.... dont buy this you have been warned......and before we get the usual load of bollox posts about how great ions are and how us div 1 / pro teams are using them and never have any bother please remember that these teams have gun techs to hand and a lot better tech support then you or I have and that makes a BIG difference. ....IONS ...pffffffft..

Oh yeh and stop listening to those bloody students^^^ if you want to spend £400 on a marker.. do it, there just pissed off you can afford it ;) :p

We were the guys playing alongside you last weekend... From the Uni? Yeah once you've been five times you get in for free and paint is cheaper, BUT only if you have your own gear, and are deemed 'worthy' :):)

I assume thats where you'll be playing for the time being yeah? No plans to play on an international level yet? So yeah, feel free to spend your £500 on the gun, but then remember theres a lot more money needing to be spent after that...

Or spend £200 on a gun, and £300 playing with it for the next 10 battlegrounds trips!! Makes sense huh?

If you can get an Ion and want it, go ahead, if you can get a decent 2nd hand gun (angel etc etc) for it, go for that, but be aware that you will spend a lot more than you first think...

Personally, in your situation, I would recommend a more rec-ball based gun. Again just an opinion, but thats what this is right? go for a Tippmann or if you must an Armotech, go for a Spyder or nice cocker, or yeah I guess an Ion (so if you do decide to take to tourney play you dont have to buy a new gun...).

Ye ok cool i thought it might be you, which uni student were u??

and im not buying this gun anytime soon was just wondering what a good choice would be. Iv only been paintballing twice theres not much need for a gun right now.

LOL lots o mixed advice comming through here but yeah i was thinking of either getting a really expensive gun thatl last ages or getting a cheaper second hand one, not really wanting to go for the inbetween ie a brand new spyder or something theres not much point going for something average with no real outstanding advantages.

Aside from this site are there any other good places to pick up second hand paintball stuff??

BTW have you got your own gun? or what was YOUR first marker?? that shouldhelp put things into prospective and what type of Angel was that guy using cuz it was pretty amazing compared to the tippmans?

FFS ...right with all respect due -stop giving out bad punter advice -.to even think of pointing out an Armotech marker as a good investment is a piss take... lets not talk about spyders and tippmans and yeh a cocker is a nice marker but make sure you know how to work it first ...we're talking about the most important peice of kit your going to buy whether you play recball once a year ,woodsball once a month or tourney once a week. There is no point in ****ing about with second rate markers you will only end up selling it for less money and wishing you'd bought a decent marker in the first place.Of course there will be more money spent but you dont get anything for free and if you are interested in the sport/hobby... whatever then you will ultimately (sp) spend that money anyway and to be honest if you want a poundstretcher sport then you'd better look elswhere because this isn't it.

Dude its all very well giving out general advice etc etc, but in this particular case and many others look at it in perspective...

Does this guy really need an Ego, Angel or something else costing £xxx. No. Dont tell me not what to say, when it makes sense. While I concur you may know your stuff when it comes to tourney, not everyones into, or going to get into that, so why bother spending the extra money on something designed for tourney...

As for Armotech, I was giving the guy options, not advice, letting him know exactly what to go google search/pbreview etc and then make his own mind up.

Its not the most important piece of kit if hes playing once yearly, a mask would be, and whats wrong with tippmanns/spyders? Theyre both decent beginner/mid/high end rec-ball guns, which to be quite honest is what he'll probably do. Please correct me if Im wrong Matt!

I wouldnt call my advice 'bad punter advice', I would call yours... By your own admission calling them punters means they aint gonna be playing hugely, so again, why spend £xxx when they dont need to?
