Hey guys im just wanting to get into paintballing on a more regular basis. So i thought for practise is would probably be cheaper to get my own gun and some reusable paintballs. That way i can pratice and also play with my mates on our own terms (using real paintballs for shooting mates of course)

So my price range isnt huge but at the same time i dont want to buy a rubbish gun that would be no better then the stock one at my regular paintball field. They use a Tippman 98. its a solid enough gun but i find it a little in accurate, the balls tended to swerve a bit. Iv been told the tipman is the workhorse.

So my price range isnt really set. No way will i pay a huge amount (ie over £500-600) but I do want to get a gun that can hold its ground, not just a gun for the sake of owning one.

i had my eye on the Spyder MR1 and the Spyder Roedo. Saying that i dont have much expertise on paintball markers aside from what the retailers will say so i dont know how reliable that is. I really care about accuracy more than anything, ill lug at 10KG gun about with me that looks crap so long as it can fire.

So if people want to say what marker they would buy now if they had to start again and why id appreciate it. I am on a slight budget so bargins are welcome and i live in the UK so id need to find somewhere that would ship here cuz some places wont??

I know this post was long and the Q has been asked many times but human feedback from people not trying to premote the guns for personal gain has gota be better then the website.

same as any marker really, look after it and dont fiddle if you dont know what you're doing and it'll probably be fine.

I did hear of people getting Ion's that shouldnt have really got past quality control but haven't heard of complaints of that kind of nature recently.

My first marker was an Angel IR3, thought it was ideal to be honest, Angel's are pretty much "take out the box and shoot it". Nothing to change nothing to fiddle with and go for next to nothing second hand.

Accuracy isnt too bad, but with any marker i'd look at investing in a decent barrel set and even then you wont get perfect accuracy.

Matt90, FYI accuracy is mostly dictated by the quality of the paintballs.

Good luck in your hunt but be careful of biased opinions coming from people with none to little technical knowledge. Trust you will see what I mean soon enough.

If you are prepared to buy second hand, then this will allow more choices within the budget you have, and always remember to include equipment such as air and loader within your forecasted costs.

If you have any queries send a PM and I will happily give you my opinion.

I would strongly recommend buying second hand. I wouldnt waste your time and money buying a spyder or something really low end like that as you will probably find it rather frustrating and if you get into paintball properly you will probably end up selling it and losing money on it. A second hand Ion would be a good way to go if you ask my humble opinion...

Where abouts are you from? The best thing to do would be to try before you buy and make ur own mind up. :)

ok mate well this is just my opinion but i would NOT get a ion as your first gun, they need alot maintenance and as your first paint ball gun i would recomend that, really you want a gun like a spyder or something (2nd hand) so that you can gas it up and go every time and maybe lube it every so often. imo an ion is to much for a 1st gun because there is lots of tech stuff about it and yes it will hold its own on a tourne field but that all depends if your going to jump on the tourne bandwaggon or go off with the Rec ballers

Sorry got to disagree with you there crumpler. My very first marker i ever bought was a bone daddy, and basically it was sh!t, thats about all i can say for that marker. Then i had a big gap in paintball and on returning bought a fully loaded ION.

Disasembley of the ion can seem quite daunting at first but if you take it slowly and step by step as per the instruction manual its quite easy and u get used to it very quickly. Even cleaning after matches can be done quite quickly and easily and imo its a very easy gat to use.

Its a great gat for both rec'ball and tournie and like crumpler said the ion will hold its own out there with the expensive gats.

And you can always make yours stand out from the crowd,,,take a look at bulldog2k's for a real look of diversity

If you want to know anything about them gimmie a pm

Thanks a lot. so the Ion is the gun of choice pretty much??? Any other options like what would be the next step from an ion.

My friend is thinking of either getting an ion and doing it up or a shocker as a first gun??? think hes got the right idea??

Someone said something about a barrel and it effecting accuracy, ye i guessed that.

what i duno is what is it about the barrel that determines how good it is? length or what??? is the ions stock barrel good or is it worth getting another one?

So things like teh spider rodeo are totally bellow the ion in class?

without wanting to offend anyone, Spyders have a bad reputation for chopping paint and being unreliable etc. basically a lot of stigma attached to them. Having said that, theyre cheap as hell and would allow you to pick up and play so to speak.

Id go for an Ion personally though.
