As Famine said the AA signs are a good idea, but there needed to be more of them with dates on and put up maybe 3-4wks ago.

The best advertisin ploy i reckon would'v been to take out a full 1 or 2 pg spread in all the free local papers emphisin the facts that it would'v been a fun, cheap few days, fingers crossed for next year.

But why would you want to do all this?

Isn't it obvious?

So that more locals could have come to steal stuff and glass paintballers in the local bars...

I wonder if maybe it's time for a new venue... It appears we have outgrown CP and there are some negatives to being there.

How about somewhere like the seafront at Brighton where they have the huge carshows and speed events? Would be great for walk by traffic and spectators, not sure about safety issues... and would probably cost a lot... but it would be like a 'UK Huntington Beach' only no where near as good :D

I know where you mean, and I agree, it would be an awesome venue.

The problem with anywhere in London is that anywhere frequented by the demographics we want to be targetting will be either A. Too expensive B. Impossible to obtain permission for. There are plenty of places outside the capital that would likely be very happy to host, and we would be closer to the all important Joe public. Several times during the CC weekend I looked around the stadium stands during the weekend and there were very few, if any spectators who didn't look to be paintballers or people involved with the teams.

Perhaps a UK paintball league that tours around major, accessable town-centres around the country, then culminates in a worldwide Millennium event towards the end of the season? Just thinking aloud here, obviously the logistics are far more serious than I imagine.

I have to say the M25 Reading event by the Rivermead Centre next to the river was good in this respect because there were a lot of causal passersby taking an interest.

After you sir!
You've played on those hard pebbles have you? Didn't know there had ever been paintball there before...

Nah I mean the open tarmac area. You could do something like the motorcross events where they bring in their own flooring etc. Yeah I know expensive and a pipe dream... but you gotta have aspirations!

Also over toward Worthing in the Hove area there are huge areas of grass land down by the Beach and walkway. That would work... hhmm

TJ. I was going to mention the kind of people you might meet there but I thought I would refrain in case the description came a bit too close to anyone we know :D

Anyway how would you know about any possible ulterior motives? Now we know why you grow your hair long and wear spandex... Is it true that you just want to be someone's
podbiatch, huh?

I was just trying to think of somewhere that may be hospitable to such an event, and where it would really be open and easily seen by non-paintballers.

TJ Don't make me hurt you :D

Hyde park would be awesome, planning premission might be a tad dodgy though.

Maybe we should do a paintball flash-mob in Hyde Park and just do it!

I live and work in Brighton and nothing would give me greater pleasure than to see this happen but (theres always a but ;) ):

The area your talking about is Maderia Drive which is probably big enough but the fields would probably have to be laid end to end as its long but not wide and more importantly, its on tarmac  , so the cost of covering this with sand/astro would be expensive to say the least.

The better alternatve would be the Lawns at the other end of the seafront in Hove (just past the burnt out West Peir). Flat grass and each section is just big enough for a field. The staging and trade show could be right by the beach on the tarmac promenade.
The fields themselves would have to have topnotch netting due to the parked cars immediatly adjacent, the moving traffic just beyond that and of course hundereds of pedestrians/cyclists in that area. Perfect location really!

Other problems I can forsee would be expensive hotels because we after all a holiday resort and both area's are used alot during the summer for lots of different events so finding a week that doesnt clash with an established date (other Milleniums/NPPL/PSP) or a Bank Holiday would start limiting choice.

The other problem you face is a hostile council. After the mess the venue (Waterhall, Brighton) for Mayhem was left in two years ago they now have a dim view of Paintballers. I know this from someone who lived on the venue and had lots of dealings with the council workers after the event. Any promoter coming back to the town would have to ensure a completely clean site after the event before they would probably consider it. Then again if we all say were Gay then they will roll out the red carpet for us. ;)

One last possible problem, secruity. The posts on here that detail this as an issue would probably escalate ten fold if this wasnt addressed very seriously. Brighton does have a rather large population of younger inhabitants who like nothing more than to help themselves to other peoples property. I know this from personal experience of running a sport shop! Access to the players area would have be rigourous and secruity for the trade stands also taken seriously probably including overnight patrols etc.

I think about a possible event on Brighton seafront most days as I drive to work, it could be fantastic. The nightlife afterwards would come close to Amsterdam (well nearly) and the crowds would be big. I think the most likely event that could be held with little fuss and cheaper costs might be an International X-ball event. One day. maybe, one day ............
