I don't nescessarly thing that showcasing x-ball with the NXL first was a bad idea, especially since the started creating divisional X-ball mid season giving the players what they want.
If the rumors surounding the 'proposed' super pro format are true, and there's a chance to play it, i suspect that most decent teams will want to play it.

Keep the 7-man alive and thats the only advantage you have against x-ball. (not that I have anything against x-ball, but if Millenium/NPPL really want to be different)
7 Man won't die, it'll evolve.

But it's all rumor and speculation until the Millennium board make it official, which shouldn't be too far away.

5-man and 10-man are dead?

Are you nuts?

Granted, many 10-man teams now play X Ball, but lets look at cup: There are still X Ball spots left in all divisions, there are 2 more DI X Ball teams than ProAm 10-man teams, teh same number of 10-man and X Ball teams in DII/Novice, and FORTY-EIGHT Rookie 10-man teams compared to a paltry 14 DIII X Ball teams. For the mathmatically challenged, that's over three times as many 10-man rook teams as X Ball. I think 10-man is doing just fine, at least as well as X Ball.

And 5-man? Puhlease, I see 191 5-man teams that disagree with you.

Interesting to see how the split will go down if a new format is added to S7/Millenium next year, but I'd imagine it'd be the same thing. Most regional leagues are still playing the basic formats, and the vast majority of the teams play there. Until such time as there are more options to play the "new" formats in non-national events, there's going to be a demand for the "basic" format at national events.

Trying to clarify my point: (not starting a virtual fight)

if there is so called "pro format" (ie. x-ball) that is first only played by pros, it has (in middle of season in PSP) and in the future will affect amateurs that are playing something different.

Nobody really (?) wants to play some format that doesn't have a future opportunity to evolve to pro-stage.

But as Robbo wrote, I believe that this "mistake" wont be repeated in Millenium.

I have nothing against 10-7-5- or any other formats...:p

Plea to Millenium Board, to hurry these decisions. As Hasse wrote, we really need information for our sponsors about next season. Preferably sooner than later.

I know of 3 or 4 10-man teams heading down to the Cup from this area. All of them wanted to do X-Ball but were afraid of the paint consumtion and larger roster size. I wonder how many of those rookie 10-man (i.e. un- or les- sponsored) teams would play D3 if they could expect costs to be the same.

Chris, I think you hit the nail on the head. X-Ball fields are just now beginning to find their way onto commercial fields in this area, so teams can practice if they so desire. But all of the local tournaments are still 5-man (some 7-man) in New England. I imagine the same is true around the U.S. Once teams can play X-Ball in local competition, I wonder what happens to 10-man?

Heh, Jeff....

How much of that is because they've only heard how much paint the Hurricanes shoot, and think it's going to cost them the same? ;) You've probably terrified the whole Northeast into thinking they need $10k just for paint at an event.

I know quite a few teams who play at about 10-15 cases a match. X-Ball isn't much harder on the wallet unless you win, in which case, hopefully you've got someone to help you out. (I think those Pro 10-man teams shoot a good chunk of paint themselves.)

Chris:
We had ONE bad event where we shot too much paint (96 cases). But since then we've been good. About 45 to 50 cases per event. (Although, for the Cup, we have pulled out the stops, and intend to shoot paint until our fingers cramp up.)

However, even at 13 cases per match, needing at least five matches to win, you are talking about 65 cases. That's a lot of paint. And if you fall into the losers bracket, you may need up to ten matches to win.

I think you are right, the 'Canes probably have half of New England terrified about paint consumption in X-Ball, but we were the same way in 10-man. Still, I think that one X-Ball match is about the same as three 10-man games in terms of paint.

TJ: Really? Picking us??? I'm honored. Out of curiosity, why? However, not to unnerve you, the team is better prepared for this event than we have been for any event this season. If they don't do well, I'll be very disappointed.
