Evil Vs KAPP 'cheating' incident

Found this quote from Mike Lynch over at Smacktalk...interesting take on thing:

"I was with the Naughty Dogs last year in Vegas and we were the best team there by far. But Trauma still won. I guess my point is who cares who the better team was that particular game. It doesnt matter. What matters is who won the tournament. I am done talking about this subject. KAPP is a great team and yes they played that field better than us. We play like sh!t on the JT field. As a matter of fact, of the 6 games we have lost this year 4 of them have been on the JT field. I look forward to seeing KAPP in the finals all year. I don't know if they cheated and I don't care if they cheated. I don't know if we cheated and I don't care if we did. CHEATING IS PART OF THE GAME. IF YOU GET CAUGHT THERE IS PENALTIES. When all of you guys are playing in the finals alongside Us and KAPP then you can come on here and talk sh!t. Till then let this topic die. They beat us, we won the tournament, we will play them in Vegas in the finals again and all this can start over."

This is tha accepted wisdom at the upper levels nowadays, so are discussions about uncaught unfractions really just moot, and no more worthy of discussion than a ref missing an off tha ball incident in football or an offside?

:( It's a shame but it seems to have been becoming more and more 'acceptable' lately.

It's almost gotten to a point where seems teams vi with each other to see who can cheat the best :(

It would be really nice to see a major judging movement come into force to smack these people back into last week. But I'm not holding my breath.

What can be done? Even stronger penalties? Better judges? Or is the paintball world just going to start to accept it? (if it hasn't already...)

im not into the major tournies...but i know you were at M25 manike....we played there to and i saw lots of judges giving penatly points. one game the other team had hot guns so we get extra points and another game they did a few one 1-4-1's which was good...i really think the marshalling is getting better....but players need to sort their attitude out when they get caught...mike Lynch says its part of the game...its not!!!! cheating is the easy way out and ruins the games!!! i mean....the Misfits were blatently cheating....using Piper as a bunker!!!! something must be done;) :D :p (sorry piper:) im just as big as you)

Don't start dragging me into your cheating conversations! And stop picking on the fat kid will ya :D

As for it being part of the game, Here is my take on it.

It IS becoming part of the game but that does not make it right. But not here in Europe. I think the USA has the bigger problem and the reason................. JUDGES no one wants to judge and if they do, they don't put all there effort into it(Dynasty good example). But here in Europe teams seem to put effort into the Judging. They may not want to do it or like it but they put effort in.

My bit done now fight nicley and no hair pulling!

then...

...and then the tournament players wonder why major corporations won't sink money into paintball. THEN they wonder why paintball isn't on TV yet.

**sigh**

Give me $250,000 and 3 months, and I'll make cheating so acceptable in the TV version of paintball it'll make your head spin. Naturally, it'll resemble "WWE Wrestling" more than a game of paintball, but hey, if the attitudes are that cheating is ok, why not embrace that sentiment and cash in on it?

It happens but we shouldn't just roll over and accept it.

OK sometimes a ref will miss a call. Happens in all sports. If he misses it cus he's 60ft away then either there's not enough judges or he doesn't give a rats ass. I'd much rather play than ref but when forced to i try to do the best job that i can. Admittedly 'd expect paying for it. There's no way i'd marshall the millennium's for example. All that grief for no reward is crazy. And don't start the "ok we'll pay judges but entry fee's have just increased by 30 euro's per player argument." Its been argued elsewhere allready.
Thats my take on it. I marshall to the best of my ability cus i want people to respect the job i'm doing. If the pro's want to push the envelope penalise them.

Incidentally can you one for one for arguing in the millennium?

cheating is part of the game. it happens, so it is. whether you chose to cheat is your own descision, and you gotta consider the pros/cons before you cheat. but still, it occurs all the time, making itas much a part of the game as shooting.

(by the way, Im not saying i am a cheat. In the words of Okeymon.... "I AM AN HONEST PLAYER!!!!")

>>>> It would be really nice to see a major judging movement come into force to smack these people back into last week. But I'm not holding my breath. <<<<

It is happening...in the unlikeliest of places, the MSPA.
An entirely new judging scheme: "Motive Neutral Refereeing."
It's a first, it dishes out severe penalties for infractions with no regard to motive, and solely based upon fact. The foundation is that each player is capable of being his/her own best referee, and the ref is only there to aid the player if/when he/she needs it and/or to enforce penalties when/if they are warranted. You can check it out at the MSPA's website: www.warpig.com/mspa and look in the rules.

If/when major series adopt this mentality of judging and enforcement of penalties, they'll clean up. Until then, the current systems will only favor the cheaters and the straight players will always be two steps behind...end of story.
