Tippmann Challenge UK update:
With four weeks to go, we thought it would be good to give everyone an update on the event so far.
Bookings have passed the 200 mark with a month still left to go! We've no idea what the final numbers will be, but our 500 player Staargate game doesn't usually reach this point until only a couple of weeks before hand - so early indications look good for a bumper turn out of players from all over the UK and Europe.
Online booking will only be open for another three weeks and will close at 1800hrs Sunday 22nd August 2010. Players who do not book in before then can still play the event, but they will need to 'pay on the day'. Paying on the day will be more expensive and you may not have the choice of which side you play on.
When you arrive, just present yourself at the registration desks and our staff will book you in and issue you with your USB memory scoring stick and also your event playing T-shirt. GSS will be issued a black limited edition Tippmann Challenge UK T-shirt and IMB will be issued with a green version.
Currently, both sides are pretty evenly matched.
All the Saturday activities are sorted and they will kick off at 12noon.
The Tippmann Pistol Challenge and the Tippmann Team UK Challenge will take place later in the afternoon at 1700 hrs. Spectators who do not wish to take part can watch from the seated viewing gallery overlooking the playing zones.
Throughout Saturday, the cafe and bar will be serving. Please note, intoxicated players will not be permitted to take part in the games.
RAM Training will also be running Combat Simulation demonstrations throughout the day. These will take the format of one of the military trainers picking volunteers from the crowd and running through a series of combat drills in a 'walk through talk through' style. Very interesting stuff and not something you'll get to see very often.
Throughout the Saturday, the Tippmann Gun Techs will be offering free tech support and also running a series of technical classes on the various Tippmann range of markers. A must for any Tippmann owner. The traders will also be in attendance all day Saturday and Sunday to cater for any paintball kit you may require.
As we move into the Saturday night, the DJ has been booked for the party and the rodeo paintball should be a giggle.
The camping field is prep'd and ready. The field is right alongside the car park and there will be toilets located within the camp field as well as the main staging area.
The Sunday game script has been completed, the missions and objectives planned out and the Player Pack is in the process of being written. We expect the Player Pack and game maps and objectives to be released next week on our website.
There is a danger that too much emphasis can be put on pyrotechnics in recent times to the detriment of the game itself. This event will have pant wettingly large explosions and pyro, but they will be integrated into the game itself and not just set off randomly for the sake of it. When you have to blow a bomb - you will be blowing a bomb! When you have to blow a bridge - you will be blowing a bridge! If huge explosions float your boat, then you'll love it!
We will be playing the entire site as a single zone over a continuous six hour game. The access road into the site will be blocked, meaning that you will be able to walk around the entire site without leaving the game zones. If you think of the site as a polo (mint) shaped, the hole in the middle is the staging area and the area surrounding that will be one massive game zone. So watch your back!
New paths have been cut into the boundary foliage between different game zones which should lead to some epic close quarter fighting and ample opportunity for flanking and sneaky peaky stuff.
The USB based scoring system has been tested and seems to be working well.
We are delighted to be welcoming probably the largest contingent of overseas players to a UK paintball game ever. We are sure that all of the players who will be travelling from Australia, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, South Africa and Poland will be made very welcome by the UK players.
Basically, everything is looking good. All the preparations are pretty much complete. We'll get the Player Packs out next week which will include maps, objectives and scoring periods meaning that the faction leaders and Generals can begin the process of formulating their plans, tactics and strategies.
Roll on Bank Holiday Weekend!
