The only downside I can see is if you get a break in that feedtube between the hopper and the bolt/breech area. That could be a pain.

I ran a warp feed for a few years and never ever had a single break it the drive system.

Not saying this is the same thing, although Sosta has been running around with a hopper mounted behind his gun for years, but the breaks nearly always come at the breach/barrel area.
