reg: netting

i wasn't at this event so can only comment in general

1, paint on cars-you all know what paintball is like and the way balls go stray so if you decide to put your car in the line of fire well thats down to you not the organiser

2, kids at paintball - i have two kids and i take them with me and i am responable for them at all times i try and keep them away from the corners and away from holes in the netting but what would be nice is an area on each field that has double netting (only as high as the average person) in a place with the least chance of bounces

3, babies - you can buy from shops such as mothercare cat nets and bug nets they fit over the pram tightly to stop things getting in so if you do take a baby with you please get one there about a fiver and may save a lot of heart ache

4, balls bouncing off baracades - this will happen but from what i'v seen mostly on the back corners and the ends of the fields and most of these balls go straight up in the air and come down the other side no mater how high the netting is so think how do they keep the animals in at the zoo? (and i dont mean electric fencing) but they have a over hang, if one was put on the public ends and triangled across the corners this would send most of the balls back down on the inside without netting the whole roof

well this is my opinion so by all means rip in to my post if you wish but remember theses are general comments not aimed at any one event or person:)

If Elsham stops hosting STB then a big chunk of british paintball dies.
But reading some of this............... JP, I don't know why you bother mate, it must be heartbreaking.

To all those who whine about netting, particularly the potentialy libelous comments two posts back...................do you still come to tournaments? if so, then how can you justify your comments?

Can we have more posts like potbitch, smartecosse and Nick Brockdorf's? constructive suggestions and a bit of support for someone who's livelehood is threatened by his support for the sport I love.

Player1, did you leave when nothing was done about someone taking a hit in the face? (which you obviously tracked the trajectory of.....did you use a computer model or laser origin?) or were you more worried about getting a days paintball in than safety concers, which seem pretty important to you know.

JP and Bully................. I don't know why you bother, but I for one fully appreciate everything you do for our sport.

if the netting was bad, then why doesnt everyone come up with ideas on how it could be better? ideas people there must be some of them out there

when using scaffolding poles could u not fix on a piece of angeld scaffolding towards the top of the pole and cover it in netting so its presents a roof around the edge to try and prevent balls bouncing off the barricades? ( may sound stupid just carnt type it up well)

at the end of the day everyone here wants to play paintball, and you dont want to have to go back to you have to wear your gogs to watch the games. We dont want to see someone loose an eye or get injured watching so lets rally round and try and help.

I think that changing the layout of the event is a way to stop the "bouncers" from leaving the field and hitting anything.

If the cars were parked somewhere else, and the trade/stageing area moved behind better designed netting. Then the spectators moved along "safe" corridors, close enough to the netting, so that the bouncers cleared them. That should solve the issue.

I started this thread not to "have a go" but to make people realise that it could have been YOUR kid that took a shot to the nose or cheek or EYE.

Lets improve on the great tournys we have, not just say "**** happens!"

Decesion probably made!!

I Think Player1 (no name) has probably made the decision for Jon and Myself - lets not take the risk - don't run the event at Elsham where we can't create a suitable exclusion zone to prevent paintballs straying off the fields.

Incidentally I believe the incident with the player being shot was in the corridor between 3 and 6 - there were goggles on signs but theses were ignored. If the Severe Cup goes ahead then all areas around and between fields will be googles on and spectators will be expected to wear goggles (like Nottingham and Uttoxeter) except in specific viewing areas.

Prior to reading the above post I was trying to get Jon to change his mind about next years STB - now I will support his decision. I will look for another venue where exclusion zones can be created but I am sure the change of venue will reflect in the game fees. I can't see a premier event like STB being held for £150/team again.
BUT safety is paramount and if the venue can't meet the specification then either the event will be history or relocated.
