Yeah the back left liedown on Field 1 was the problem. A lot of games ended with the last man in behind that liedown, and several opposition pounding the top of it, most of which ended up bouncing up and pasting the cars. It's a shame 'cos it was a great bunker to play- we tripled-up into it on the break and shot two players up into the snake/tape-thing asap. Having a standup would have saved the cars but wouldn't have been quite so much fun. Good tourney though.

Get Off My Field! NOW!
I was hit in the cheek and a mate in the head while standing next to those big white tent thingy's.... Anyway, top class event. Although arnt balls bouncing of barricades going to happen sooner or later, and unless you have netting that is substantially high, you'll always have the problem of Rouge balls?

If the ball has gone up and over, it's already lost a lot of it's speed anyway as the impact with the bunker absorbs a lot of it so it's nowhere near 300fps (could still damage an eye though)............. it's the strays through netting that are the worry, the little kids collecting bags of paintballs around the netting and players lifting it up to save a 30 foot walk that are the big worry. Having said that, what happens when a spectator takes a few bouncers? over the net? or worse still a ball that's been fired high and clears the net completely?

Not a comment on Elsham........I missed STB as I was having a big hole cut into my back.

Netting

If the complaints had been raised after the January event I would have 100% agreed with you the netting was then 3 metres (area next to the team and trade area) it was wet and muddy (remember the weather) therefore it was probably 2.5mts high and the team who set up the fields placed barricades within a couple of feet of the net , so hits occured it was not satisfactory and we agreed to sort it out.

This time Jon Payne has put in telegraph poles, the netting was 6 metres high in the main areas (I am not talking about the areas around the playing fields were it was 3 mts high) I set the field (with help) and made sure the edge of the field was at least 10/12 feet from the netting. The barricade concerned was at least 15 feet from the net if not more. Yet paintballs still bounced over. Another area of cocern was the corridor between 2 and 6, whilst there was a net showing the entrance to the field, there were goggles on signs in the corridor. Ignored by spectators etc.... as they felt they were in no danger until they passed the "safety sign". Exclusion zones were placed behind the fields to help with safety and one group decided it would be a good camping area. We placed bunting and posts 1 mt from field one's netting to prevent spectators getting close to the nets yet these were taken down by spectators who wanted to get closer to the netting.

I am not sure what the answer is:

Yes we could put 6 mt netting around all fields but the fields where there was 3 mt netting we had no complaints about players being accidentally shot from other fields ( I am sure you will now all start posting to say you were shot) so it appears it is not direct hits it is bouncers.

The answer could be a 50 mt exclusion zone around all fields to prevent stray balls reaching players/spectators/cars etc...If you enter the area you wear a mask ALL the time. Not good for spectators, plus there are not a lot of sites were this exclusion area could not be created. Limit spectators to a certain area away from the corners and potential risk areas.

A possible answer could be to reduce the chrono limit to 280fps or lower (like the indoor) This would help reduce the bouncers over the net as the ball will not be travelling at the same speed when it hits the barricade. It would also reduce some of the horrendous welts I saw this weeked. Increase the distance between the barricades and the netting, on certain fields this could reduce the size of the playing fields.

We are open to suggestion for future events, but the word is this could be the last event at Elsham due to the actions of .... as usual a few players.

Nothing to do with the netting as this is something that needs looking at, nothing to do with the main tournament etc.... but the "players" (I am assuming we want to call them players) who p..ssed in the pool, put bottles in the pool (Luckily they were not broken but imagine if the had been with the kids in the pool) broken tables (I drove over a table leg so I am partly guilty) entered the "lets see how much mess we can leave in the camping area" competition, cra.ped on the floor of the toilets, went in the woods and emptied their hoppers on the "command task structures" in the woods etc........... Jon is considering the future of events at Elsham, but when I left the site at 7.00pm tonight it was "Find another venue for the players to trash"

I was a fantastic event and a big thank you goes out to all involved, from players, marshals, catering, air,ice cream van, firework display, spectators, trade stands, helpers who set it up and took it all down, organisers etc.... , but again the mindless few (and I am sure it is less than 10 "players") spoil it for 350+ sensible people.

Rant over

Steve

ELSHAM is STB and Vice Versa

What ever the problems with the players who were in the woods( I thought tourney players didnt play in the woods anymore) and all the problems with people having weak bladders in the pool , etc etc etc

We cant let Jon Payne , cancel the Event next year because of these pea brains.

Simply the Best , was named thus , back in the day , because it was and to my mind still is.

We need to encourage more tourneys of this size and nature , not destroy the site owners will ( and his site )

Who else can put an event on like this? Maybe a few places but at what cost ? £300 per team ? £500 per team?

Get real , wake up and smell the coffee , if you cant handle your pop dont drink any , if you cant behave get a team nanny!

I'm sure someone at the event last weekend can spill the beans on who it was. Or if not at least have a word with them!

KEEP STB AT ELSHAM

Just ban camping and alcohol. That should sort it.
Never thought the amount of drink being bandied about during tourneys was a good idea. (fine the night before, but during the day?)

I know a lot of the teams that we talk to turn up because of the camping and the relaxed atmosphere. Its just a shame that the actions of a few, could have potentially spoilt the excellent tournament for the rest of us.

For christs sake, it was a kiddies pool!!!

On a lighter note, it was nice to see the likes of Tigers and Shock and Ducklings playing. Congrats go to the Ducklings for the win. You guys plaed some excellent games. Hope to play you guys at Campaign. Maybe I can shoot you out again Nick :D

had a fantastic time at the event and really enjoyed watching the semi's and finals.

its just a shame that no matter what sport or hobby you partake in there always seems to be an element of "SCUM" that manage to spoil it for the rest.

is it the beer, special tobacco or is there just a % of paintballers who dont give **** about spoiling everyone elses fun? probably the latter.

the sooner they are named, shamed and told to find another way to spent their money the better.

Why is there so much bull**** and spineless posting.
"I saw a ball nearly hit a 6 month old baby, but the netting was 6m high so hey ho, one of those things, what a great tourny"

The netting was crap, end of story, no amount of pussy footing around will tell you otherwise.
I was next to a player who was spectating at the time when he got whacked in the cheek (not a bounce off a baricade) which left a welt. He and his team mates then complained to Russ Smith. I was there and heard it. It happened last tournament as well, they said.

It wasn't just the height of the net, it was the state of it as well. It looked in places as though it had been dragged behind a tractor for a couple of miles.

So what was done, f'?k all, that's what, but oh well, what a great tourny.

If it needs net roofing, it needs net roofing, if it needs a 50m exclusion zone, it needs a 50m exclusion zone.

Wonder what the netting would be like next time if the owners of the cars claim for paintwork damage.

If the players eye had been taken out, or even the babies, what would be done about it. Probably roofed netting and a 50m exclusion zone.

Lets wait until a spectator does have an eye put out and look into what should be done, better still, lets not wait and put in place safety measures as though it had happened.

Lets not go down the road of "well what else can you do, we spent 2 weeks crap" it doesn't wash any more. Just sort it out in a priofessional manor or don't risk our sport.
