I had to chuckle at the bit where someone reckoned it was "relevant" to discuss salaries.

Unless he was being extremely sarcastic, (right to the extreme at making himself look really dumb), "boasting" to yanks that you earn £18.500 pa is akin to saying you are paid the same amount as an immigrant working in a fast food restaurant given that that figure is less than 75% of the current average salary in the US for 2004

I must be losing my finely honed sarcasm sensors because I've re-read the original post 4 times and it still reads real to me. Especially with the "SUCH" 2 sentences previous (and on what seemed like a different topic", and the wink being unrelated also.

Must go look for my sarcasm workout tapes. Otherwise I'm going to think even more people are being a dumbass when patently they aren't.
