Its just the bullsh!t bureaucratic standards we have to put up with...............did anyone actually see a bottle get checked at campaign? Just because a bottle is tested to a different type of standard dosnt mean that it may be unsafe to use if you fly over the pond, especially fibre wrap tanks.

Ok, its illegal to TEST them in the UK and to FILL them in the UK (unless you happen to be a visiting foreigner which makes it completely safe to fill  )....

however, if I was able to get my bottle tested in another country to HSE standards, then does that make it legal to use and does it make it legal to retest it in 3 years as it will now carry a HSE test certificate...

Well it can't be illegal (as in against the actual LAW) otherwise overseas players could not get their DOT bottles filled and use them (unless they get diplomatic immunity).

It simply contravenes a government guideline test standard, for all I know the DOT test could be identical to the HSE, it's just done by a different government's safety agency.

And the other country would be...... one that uses DOT bottles so pretty doubtful, hey try Germany they like to do things different...oh were in the federal state of germany anyhow so maybe you won't have to. ..;) Just live with it.

Rule 1 - Live here and hold british nationality = MUST use HSE
Rule 2 - Live here but hold another nationality = use what the hell you want
Rule 3 - Don't live here, don't hold british nationality, just visiting this country = use the test relevent to your country

It sucks that we aren't inline regulation wise with the rest of europe, but until that happens, don't try to save money by buying DOT bottles (if you fill the first rule above)

BTW a long time ago I posted a reply to a thread discussing this very topic "yawn" and avoided naming names !! All about the import of bottles many years back......they were brought in and they were all DOT bottles not as otherwise stated in this thread (I played with those early air systems) yes the later ones were HSE but NOT the first shipments actually the later ones I seem to remember were not even stamped with any DOT or HSE certificate (this is borne out by another reply of an older player coming back into the sport and finding that his bottle could be tested to HSE standards because it was not stamped by either set of rules) The theory of getting a HSE test for a DOT bottle is great but only as theory 'cos the making of the bottle involves a label set into the bottle showing the test underwich it has been constructed with in mind. A Dual tested bottle has the two standards so that is fine to be tested to either test BUT this would still mean that you would need to follow the rules of residency if, it had for example an out of date HSE mark but a retest label in the DOT form (so no trying to cheat in the next couple of years guys ;))

re filling of dot cylinders

after our chat with theHSE they pointed out that you cannot fill a DOT cylinder from a commercial source, ie from us at an event, we have to stick to the law as what has already been said any insurance co would use it against any claim should an injury arise from a burst cylinder, they would not commit themselves to saying whether or not you could fill a cylinder yourself from a dive tank but i would think ins co would take any view to stop them paying out in the event of injury.
our final word is we will not fill any DOT cylinders and will not test any.
regards

I have no idea what you are going on about here... The bottle that I own is a DOT bottle. IF I can get it tested to HSE standards with a HSE Mark on it then surely I can use and get the bottle filled.... It doesnt matter where I get it tested as long it is tested.... germany, america wherever....

I think Mark's point was that the only country we know of that does HSE tests is the UK, everywhere else does DOT, so where could you get this HSE test done?
Smart Parts have the dual test bottles as well, where I got mine this summer.
