I agree with you on the point of training. However, the style of play will become faster and far more aggressive with teams playing the same field a number of times and going against te same team 5 times. When the wanna be teams make the step up they will be playing against teams that are familiar with style of play this format will promote. It will be harder for them to make that step up.

On another note, the style of play that this league will promote is an excellent way of moving British paintball forward. Fast aggressive games on familiar fields will only help. It is a reat shame that only pros will be able to take advantage of this, when it will clearly benefit teams of all levels that want to take the sport more seriously. This argument is boosted by jealousy, but tat doesnot make it any less valid. We need an attitude in British paintball that recognises the importance of all levels of the game and attempts to increase the ability at every level. A big change was needed to the way we play events and i had hoped that this would be the answer.
I doubt if most 'lower ranked' teams are ready for it

If they were required (that is without fail) to turn up to a series of events and play 2 teams per day with the overall result not apparent until the end of the series then I'd say there would be few to take up the challenge.

It is a problem that has affected NXL - boredom with teh league format.

This has a league for the teams to play away from the business of international tournament play - which is where their true focus is and will ensure satisfaction for players and no disenchantment (Miami Effect style!!)

It is a reat shame no one bothered to ask these lower end teams. I know my team could and would commit to it, im sure a number of the amA and amB teams could also be counted. This format will aid teams in their quest to continue improving, i am sure that a number of teams would recognise this and see the long term benefits. It is wrong to assume that because a team is not pro that they lack commitment.

BS

If they showed an ounce of real commitment, that is real hard work on the training field then I'd agree.

In reality most are Sunday recreation players (albeit playing tournaments).

The format will do no such thing

I've got a great idea, the top 4 teams are going to shut themselves away for 5 months next winter and drill on their own.

The cost will be about 30 boxes per team per weekend, plus travel and hotels etc.

Each team will train independently from each other and only meet by chance if they are drawn together at a major event.

How does that sound Hermitt? Making yer balls tingle and yer hair stand on end?

Well that is how the top teams progress. Not by playing 10 games in a day in a quick fire format.

Do you want to sign up for it? We'll call it 'Trainingball'

Ah the sweet sound of sarcasm:rolleyes:

As the manager of a team that has locked itself away all winter and done little else but train, i have to agree that it lplays a major part in building a successful team. We may not have gone through thirty cases per weekend but we have certainly not fallen into the bracket of turn up and play.

My argument is that the way in which the majority of British teams play paintball is stagnant and unimaginative. We lack the aggression and inventiveness a lot of the teams have stateside (for a number of reasons), in my opinion this new format offers a leap forward for the reasons i have mentioned. The same fields and the same teams will produce a faster and more agressive style than we have previously seen.

If it won't then why on earth would spectators want to go and watch?

I have not looked into the amount of paint that would be used in each event. I suspect for the lower end teams it would be around 20 cases, if im wrong then please inform me otherwise then i can comment further.

It sounds like a restricted boys club that holds little more than an aid to the teams that are already up there. If the league offers little more than the ability for the top teams to come and play a lot of games against each other then this seems a little narrow minded. Couldnt they just pick up the phone and arrange a group hug, and play against each other without the added costs (they each have their own training venues).

Hermitt

Fun and entertaining though it is to read the Pud'n'Toye Sarcasm show I thought I would just jump in a throw you a lifeline....
At the end of 2005 season, the top Div1 team in each of the UK Masters, Series 2005 and SWPL leagues (plus one other team but thats a secret) will be invited onto the tour for the next year . At the end of 2006 3 teams will leave the tour and the next winners from the leagues will be invited to join.
This way the Pro-Tour can be assured of always having the cream of Brit-ball and the team on the Tour can be assured of the best possible competition.

So, if your team has been training hard and plays well enough this season, you too could be on the Tour next year!
