Points

Okay just back from the DMA and I'll bullet point my thoughts, again my thoughts are my own and not meant to offend, I'll start with the bad points then do the good.

The players area should be covered guys, come on, this is common sense and it would not have been hard to do.

The scaffolding was unfortunate but really should have been looked at prior to game start.

The schedule was a sham and should have been sorted out, maybe look at bringing in someone who runs the tournament schedule.

Marshals on the whole were excellent, however, I pay alot of money and so do you to play these tournaments to have some PRO players who is on marshal duty throw down the arm bands and tell you to put them on yourself is downright disrespectfull. they are there gaining points and as such should conduct themselves accordingly.

Oh and a little bit of wood with an arrow on it wouldn't have gone amiss.

Right good points.

EXCELLENT effort for DMA, the fields were a good size, the marshals on the whole was excellent, the facilities were excellent, all in all I would say a success.

Now all the critics think about this, would you be complaining as much if the sun had been out all day and the wind and rain didn't blow away 2 beer tents and wreck the scaffolding?

Here is one for the future to maybe think about.

No team marshal the mill series but a school of marshals employed to do just this series.

If a player is 1 4 1 for playing on or cheating we pull them 1 4 1 obviously then we make the team go out with 6 players the next game, might work you know.

Anyway it was nice to see everyone again, next time FLY for goodness sake, 1 hour, see you all in Toulouse where I hope the bloody sun shines!!!!!!

Orange said some pretty harsh words

about a tourney that excelled in many areas. Now the boy Orange has some seriously valid points about the outdoor staging area and the badly constructed towers that fell over a few times but I feel, although these are real areas of concern that desperately need to be rectified by next year you still feel compelled to open your eyes to any of the plus points of the tournament. You think you had a bad time?? Read on.

We were booked on a coach that should have delivered us to the site at around 1pm giving us plenty of time to walk the fields to death in order for us to really kick some ass. What time did we arrive?? 6pm. Registration time. We were then told we had 1 hour before our coach driver took us to our hotel. Where was our hotel?? 1 hours drive away. Nice. So after briefly familiarizing ourselves with the venue and rushing to get registered we left the site feeling stoked at how cool the whole thing was but severely pissed at how all our plans went out the window; but there is a saving grace....we were only playing in the afternoon so we could see how the fields played AND have a lie in....WRONG, we had to leave at 5am with the other teams on the coach who were playing in the morning. SHIIIIIT!! Oh yeah, forgot to mention, what was our hotel like?? Well, it was an old folks home. Seriously. AND it was 45km away from Amsterdam centre with absolutely no amenities nearby and our coach driver wouldn't take us there AND we couldn't get a taxi beacause they wanted £150 for 4 people. No Amsterdam visit for us then and no player party. Great.

Anyway, we walk sopme fields and watch some games before our afternoon session which was to start at 3:30pm but we waited untill aroung 5:00 pm by which time the heavens opened and we were piss wet throughout all our games which finished at around 9:20pm, only 4 games mind. So from arriving at at the site at 6:00am, roughly, we arrived back at the hotel at around 10:30pm, long f*kin day.

Next day we have morning session, great we thought, we'll get the sun before it rains in the afternoon right? Wrong again, the rain started in the morning and was sunny in the afternoon. When we finished our games we were wet through and pissed because our heads were that deflated with it all going wrong we lost too many games to make the semis (although we did beat GZ in our last game, which was nice). So no semis the next day hows about we go out into Amsterdam then tonight....£150 taxi, no chance buddy. We'll just stay in our deaths waiting room all night, after we wait over 1 and a half hours for our pizzas to be cooked at the local pizza shop.

This, in a nutshell, was our tournament yet we still came away with plenty positives. The fields were awesome, the entire venue was great and the whole layout was superb with easy access to everything. Now you're entitled to have your own views on things and the tower issue really is worth kicking off about, that can't happen again ANYWHERE but to come away from a tournament without any plus points or learning anything makes you come across seriously negative dude.

Can you say that your experience was as bad as ours?? I just wanna know man, there must be more to it than the what you highlighted.

Damn, and I thought I had some crap to deal with !!!!

I was with Al... n i still had a good time!!

Cheers to JCS Inferno for lettin me play, i had a great time shame about them two points eh?
Well done to all the teams on the coach, great meetin you all n great seein you play guys, shame we didnt take any trophies back with us (even though we brought two boxes of the things with us!!)

Shame about the rain.. but still fookin loved it!!! :D  :D

Just to add to Al's tale of woe, I'd arranged for my wife Wendy to fly out on the Friday and meet us but due to the cock up with the transport I couldn't see her either Fri or Sat.

The old folk were pretty funny and soon latched on to Al giving them the big wave everytime he walked past ) Anyway what would you rather be doing, staying up for the players party or having an early night after a game of dominoes and a cup of Ovaltine?

On the plus side we did bring a lot away from the DMA that's going to improve our game (and travel arrangements).

How about moving DMA to Mid June, it always seems to piss down with rain about this time in May. Would also give teams who played Max masters and Portugal a chance to save some cash to play DMA resulting in more teams playing and more dosh for the organisers.

Of course it might piss down anyway...

Players switching teams...

I think Hatts was referring more to a guy playing for one team (that he's registered with) in the prelims then turning out for a different team in the semis the next day!
you hit the nail right on the head there Liz...but as it seems to have pretty much gone un-noticed or has been buried I wonder if those involved are just keeping their heads down until it's hopefully forgotten about...

I'd be kinda interested to see the viewpoint on this incident from some of the Millennium committee actually or at the very least from some of the more recognised names in the industry.

I'm not trying to stir up $hit guys, I just feel very strongly that while paintballers continue to carry on this way just to boost their own ego's no one from outside the paintball world is going to take us seriously and let's face it, the big money that is gonna take this sport that we love into the big time has to come from outside.

Everyone talks about wanting to see PB on television but every wipe, every screaming session at a referee, every player who deliberately plays on and every hotel room that gets trashed takes us one step further away from that. Paintball is being held back by ego's. The few who need to always look good, always be the best and will blatantly resort to cheating in order to do that are destroying the credibility of our sport, which is fragile at best.

The incident I'm referring to was a blatant breach of the rules for no reason other than the desire to win at all costs. How can we realistically expect those outside of the sport and the industry to take us seriously while we not only stand by and watch it happen but then do nothing about it....

Food for thought boys and girls.
(hmmm guess I shoulda posted this in "Speak Your Brains"...)

I aggree with hatts. When things like Hotels Rooms getting trashed are happening it doesnt give paintball a very good image.

Erm

Aren't Goose, Big Sid an a few other guys on a disciplinary committee now? Let's stop tha big talk on tha board and see some action: put a complaint a writing and mail it to Goose. It's your series and you wanted a strong committe - tha Millennium have given you one so use it.

peace

Moving DMA to mid-June might give people more time to save up after Max & Portugal, but it would give them about 3 weeks to get ready & save up for Toulouse.
If you look at the Millennium dates you'll see that they are usually around 5 weeks apart. This gives the maximum time between tournaments while still having them in half reasonable weather (April through to September).

BTW - many people won't name & shame on these boards due to the possibility of come-back from the people they accuse, so I think we really need a mail address for the disciplinary committee soon.
