Dive Tanks - "Shelf life?"

You can get "Angel" thongs in most cheapie underwear shops....seem to be kinda popular with the "Cheekie teenagers" these days...not officially Angel, but hey, who's gonna know (or care :p )

Cheers for the info n the bottle. Thing is that the stamp is so faint I just can't find a date anywhere, under a bright light and straining my eyes until they watered I managed ot make out the Bar pressure, the capacity, the Serial Number (kinda cheated 'cos I matched it to the test certificate which was supplied with it.. though I freaked at first, as the serial number was 1946!!!! :p ) and the COMPRESSED AIR stamp. The last test is showing as 99 and it says that the testers hold the manufacturer's certificate. But this is all the information I can get (and they're closed for the weekend now) If it helps, there's pics Here>

which show the certificate.

Hope I haven't been sold a lemon on this one

From the picture on your link the test certificate says only 200 bar working pressure.....

Isn't that a bit low?????

Only tanks I've ever seen used in the paintball circle are 232 and 300 bar versions.

It does look pretty good condition from the picture... but....... IMO, I'd have left this alone. I mean, last test was 99 which, at very best, would mean that it was made in '96, which makes it 8 years old with not a scratch on it .........

Looks like a new paint job to me. Especially and you say you can hardly see the markings.

But then I'm not an expert.

As Wingnut has said it is a minimum of 8 yrs old...well low holding pressure and tiny to boot so you aren't gonna be getting many fills out of that...it is a dive tank and meant for diving/breathing air not paintball, you could strap it to your back and use it that way like John Sosta did many many years ago but not in todays game...put it back up for sale...12ltr 300 bar tanks come up on here often enough for around the £100 mark even 12 ltr 232 bar tanks appear often enough as well for a little less...I think the last tank that was for sale on here was a 12 ltr 300 bar and it was on offer at £85..even if it was a 232 bar tank that is still way better than what you have currently.

Ok so split hairs then  I did say diving/breathing indicating that it's primary use was for either...it still is nigh on useless for paintball unless it is gonna be strapped on your back. the valve only seperates the usage when getting a refill as the 5 yr rule applies to surface tanks...if you were to buy a scuba tank of a sensible size IE 12ltrs and pay the extra for the surface valve then you too would get the benifit of the 5 year test...though still expect refillers to get windy or bolshy about refilling the tank after 3 years...it happens that some places will not refill tanks that only have 1 yr left on the test, 3 or 5 yr certificate, due to their particualr insurrance schedule.

As wing nut says, it looks as though it could have been repainted. 207 bar is 3000psi, quite a common size for early ally bottles, perfectly good for 3000psi use. In fact i had one did it's job quite well, but a 12L 300 bar would be preferable.
