If you just want to part off parts etc (although that a lathe term)...you could just get a driller miller, which is like a drill press, with a moveable bed.Dskize said:right this is what i want to know
for example
I have a stock 03 shocker body and i want to cleanly and professionally chop bits off of it and channel grooves in it and mill eye/detent sockets out of it, basically customise stock bodys iI dont actually want to produce marker bodys from a lump of metal its really just for some more expensive fun and I personally enjoy ****ing about with things.
What do i need ? ...no prizes for saying 'a life'
Then, what you would need is a decent bed vice and then be creative with ways of mounting teh body in said vice, in order to get what you want.
A basic one...

A better one

Either would look fantastic in your workshop though..a real boys toy!
This is a Mill and lathe combo (lathe sold seperately), which is cool looking.

Either of the top two, would be fine for..say...if you wanted to mill a groove along teh top or sides of the body etc, you could do that....but as I said, if you can come up with a sturdy mount, you can do other things too.
The good thing about CNC stuff, apart from teh fact that iot can make mutiples of one thing easily...is that it can do it because all teh movements are electronic, so you can move a peoce along two or more axis at a time.
To do this by hand, even on a simple manouvre, would be difficult...turning handles in different directions, simultaneously.
