the irony, delta force don't do anything underhand, their prices are clear as crystal, availible to all to see, they just dont cater for guys with their own gear, (well.... not yet!) they offer fields that no private owned site comes close to, they simply cater for a different market.

walk ons are being trialed, they may go ahead, may not, trust me, there are people including myself on the other side of the fence fighting your corner!

not sure tbh what issues people have with df, other than cost.... well again, they currently dont aim to cater for walk ons.

if cost is the reason, the next time DF trial a walk on day, prove to them walk ons are a good thing, vote with your feet. book in and come play! £55 for fees and 2000 balls.... you'll get a warm welcome at delta force Coventry, im Tony, the center manager, come see what a 550k paintball center has to offer ;)

Delta is ok, but i have a massive problem with IPG.

Get rid of that company and you will do DF's reputation a hell of a lot of favours.

other than that its a starting point for many people. I took a team of 20 down a little while ago and every one of them thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The prices are a little high but many other places are not far off of them.

Nice to know walk on days are being trialed though. I hope they go well (y)

ipg put a lot of business our way, sadly, once in a blue moon a seller or two will bend the truth for a sale, these sellers are soon weeded out, two strikes and gone! sometimes the customer hear what they want to hear... but 95% of the time we have happy happy ipg customers :)

I like df its not too bad, the prices are high but you could go somewhere else where it would be more expensive, if only the one near me did walkons :( Leewood just incase the manager is on here lol

my biggest beef with DF came from overbooking / under staffing which meant the overall service suffered a lot. at our site in particular The terrain couldn’t handle the number of players and became 20cm of standing mud / water all year round. keeping the guns working after constant "dunking" in 10 minute intervals became a sad joke and marshalling 45-50 players over summer with just an inexperienced support marshal is what lost us the majority of our competent game runners.

I won’t lie, when we had competent staff and ~250 players or less we could keep things running well and everyone had a great time but the service could have been so much better with 3 or 4 marshals to a game instead of 2 or hell maybe if we had held training days more often than once a year with > 50% attendance we could have done more with the few we'd had :p

i liked working at DF but it just felt like everyone / everything was trying to **** on mine and others work (oh my god peoples inability to clean a hopper). also the wage was criminal

staffing is a issue that stops at a managers level, you cant blame the company if your low on staff... dont really agree on 3-4 marshals on a field either, if you cant manage your group, sop is to inform the manager who would then thin out the group, turning a large group in to two smaller more manageable groups.

any paintball centre in the country is prone to being let down on the day by staff not turning up, or walk ons where more than expected turn up, ive played a walk on with 60-70 players and 1 marshal controlling us....

wages crminal? there are more than 3000 df marshals in the country that disagree with you..... none are forced to work against their will....

seems you have had a love / hate relationship with df, its a shame, though it's definitely on a centre by centre basis, I've just taken over Coventry, and two months in I have a truly amazing team I'm extremely proud of, that have catered to the needs of 2573 players since I took the helm, we haven't always got it right, but we learn from our mistakes, and are continuing to grow.

Ill state that our site was in a bad situation because of the ground and layout of the game zones, it was more or less impossible to keep track of your support marshal through LoS and it was very difficult to move around the game zone because of the terrain. on a good day with a good support marshal i felt i could just about manage and do the job well - actually spend some time paint checking, but if it was raining or we were running a group of kids without their parents, the day just dissolved into running from one gun jam to another punctuated far to often by digging players out of the mud. Ill concede that 2 marshal’s probable works on other sites, but certainly it seemed like too much was being expected of us and the response was always that the companies not going to pay for more staff if they don’t have to. Always made me laugh when marshals from other sites came down to ours for the first time and just had no idea how to handle the mud.

oh come on £40-45 for a 12 hour shift is grim no matter which way you look at at, in just short of 2 years i worked there I’ve never met someone that felt the wage reflected work done except for a particular regional. No one’s forced to work but £80 a weekend just about beats being on the dole.

Was absolutely gutted when we finally had a good team (went from 11pm finishes at the offsite to centre of excellence in the time I worked) and the site got shut over planning permission. if I’m ever down your way I’ll be sure to pay a visit. Might stick my face in at zulu/leewood in the mean time, I hear they have wood chippings underfoot:eek:

That price range appears to be either below, or just at minimum wage for under 18s:

after tax and ni, take home exceeds minimum wage ;)

I was out of work for 4 months recently, I'd quite happily have worked for £45 a day take home, lets face it, its not that hard to shine and prove your worth as a senior marshal and take home £50 a day after tax ;)

a marshal isnt going to see everything going on, but then it isnt a tournament, its just a bit of fun on the weekend. ... my customers would prefer my ww2 bunker strewn wood to be dense bushes and wood with limited lines of site rather than an open bouncey castle esque field with next to no cover.... as long as the marshal has enough common sense to be watching the "front line" and danger spots, rather than thumb up arse, stood next to a bunch of camping kids at the back lol

Easy enough to get promoted sure takes months to get that extra 5er reflected in your pay though. You’re site sounds a different beast to ours. we had impressive objectives / structures, but plonked in hideous twig thin planted woodland and any hard cover had feet of mud behind it. Not exactly "movie set quality" and certainly less appealing than the site down the roads setup built on an old ammo depot and hence featuring real ww2 bunkers rather appropriately.

whilst it’s just a bit of fun on the weekend, it costs upwards of £40 which seems like poor value for money to the player when the bloke at the back on the other team keeps cheating or his guns gone down and the marshals are too busy to help, rushed off their respective arses helping players elsewhere, or stuck watching an objective near completion. certainly the majority of grumpy faces in base camp in my experience stem from these problems. awarding / subtracting points remedies it to some extent but cant remove the bitter taste that their not being solved in game.

Yes the majority of people that play have a good time at deltaforce but whilst working there at the end of every weekend there were always instances I felt that, if they couldn’t have been avoided, could certainly have been dealt with better by having an additional trained marshal in game.

gonna retire from this thread now as i feel ive said more than my fair share but will respond to PM's on any points made
