Welcome to another episode in the continuing drama. Chuck responds to PSP's use on the NPPL name:
_______________________

From Force of Nature:

In a press release dated today, Chuck Hendsch replies to the news reported yesterday about the PSP and their use of the NPPL name. He says they will not be sanctioning PSP events and reiterates the goals of the Super 7 series. He does not address however the legal standings of the name and those other areas adresses by PSP. The poll we started show an equal amount of support for the Super 7 series, as for the naming...it may end up being a judge who decides.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

NPPL.INFO, it’s not imitation, it’s the REAL thing!

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Nov 19, 2002 – The National Professional Paintball League, the sole founding amateur and professional paintball league in the United States, announced today that it will not be sanctioning Paintball Sports Promotion (PSP)events or tournaments for the 2003 season.

NPPL President Chuck Hendsch had this to say “ It is very apparent the PSP prides themselves on running tournaments and events which do not live up to NPPL standards, the NPPL has a responsibility to the players, sponsors and industry to change the way we view tournament play. Thus the NPPL has created the new Super 7 World Series, where independent, fair, honest judging will be in place, guaranteed prize packages will be announced prior to each tournament, proper site layouts, schedules and media kits will be completed on time and venues chosen and promoted to expose the sport positively to the masses.”
There has been some confusion created by several websites which use the National Professional Paintball League Inc.’s name to promote events not sanctioned by the NPPL. The NPPL does not support or condone any information found on these websites.
To find out more about the NPPL and the New Super 7 World Series, go to the Official website – www.NPPL.info. It’s not imitation, it’s the REAL thing!
About NPPL
The NPPL is the National Professional Paintball League, the sole sanctioning body for all amateur and professional paintball players in North America. It is a league, where player representatives formulate league rules, make business decisions and sanction and preside over all aspects of any NPPL event.

I may have missed it. Notice that I posted it at around 7.30 GMT this morning.

Now check this out that was up on Smacktalk:
___________________________________
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) will henceforth disassociate itself from the name National Professional Paintball League or NPPL. The official website of PSP will become www.PSP.com effective December 1, 2002.

The reason for this is to remove any confusion in the eyes of the public and among the paintball teams regarding which are PSP tournament events and which are not. Another organization has chosen to use the NPPL name and does so on shaky legal grounds, at best. But PSP has decided to cease contesting that issue in the greater interest of the overall image of paintball and in order to concentrate our energies towards that which is most important: to provide the best quality paintball tournament series in the world.

Furthermore, PSP welcomes competition on the tournament scene in the realization that fair competition will bring out the best from us all. We recognize that there has been and always will be room for improvement in any tournament series. We have looked at other series and have learned from their mistakes and successes. We have taken a close look at the European Millennium Series and have seen the aspects of their tournaments that have received so much praise and that are worthy of emulating.

We pledge to offer vast improvements for the 2003 season. We will provide higher quality venues with flat, grass lawns along with the safe, secure netting we have developed. We will offer generous spectator seating along with comfortable toilet facilities, a sponsor-and-public-friendly trade show area, and a comfortable and secure set-up area for the playing teams. We will also continue to offer our state-of-the-art air filling system.

Most importantly, we will make a more pronounced effort to provide quality judging, making use of the current player-team judging system (teams playing for points, in the interest of keeping costs and entry fees as low as possible) along with Professional Reffing Organization judges as needed. We will prepare for and move towards total PRO reffing for the near future with the support of our sponsors. Affirmative programs will be put into place to continuously train all judges and to bring consistency in the enforcement of the rules. All fields will have at least one professional supervisor/head judge and a minimum of 6 judges for 5-man, 8 for X-ball and 10 for 10-man, no exceptions.

We will also provide the best prize-packages in the world of paintball and will announce the cash and product values at least 60 days in advance of every event.

In the interest of openness and making use of the many ideas that are out there, we will open a forum on our website for all registered players, sponsors and others involved. This will be a meeting-place for friendly, constructive discussion regarding our beloved sport.

We wish our competitors good luck. As a player, please try one of the other events, then try one of the PSP 2003 events. Then decide which league/series to support. As a further gesture of good will, and hope for unity within our growing sport, we will count series points from NPPL Super 7 Series and Millennium Series events toward series championship, so teams will indeed feel free to choose the events best for them. The schedule for the point system will be announced before year’s end. Welcome to a new level of tournament paintball!

If you believe this then unblock your chimneys on Christmas Eve!

As much as Smack Talk is known for it's integrity, I couldn't find that release on any other website, including the P8ntballer front page, nor at http://www.nppl.com/
Mark,

I've also got some cheap, undeveloped land for you in Central Florida.:D
