as i have stated in other threads, i have been out of the tourney scene for over 6 years.. our team is anxious to start playing the circuit again.. we have tried every gun out there now to get the perfect marker (we feel).. the one thing we noticed is the outrageous cost of the set ups.. now, i admit , 6 years ago i had some expensive guns.. i thought they were to costly then but, at least they shot straight.. what amazes me is that a open bolt gun can be so expensive!! lets face it.. what is the difference between a bushie and a angel?? botha re open bolt, very fast guns.. the angel runs well over $1000.00 dollars to get it set up nicely.. the bushie, well set up, runs well below that.. now, botha re open bolt and very fast.. what makes the angel worth the extra $500.00?? what also strikes me is the inaccurate groupings with most markers these days...i shot all the available markers with various barrels and paint.. most were not very accurate at distance and the groupings were not impressive..it just seems to me that if i am going to shell out 1300.00 for a marker, i expect they thing to be accurate.., all have great rates of fire..very impressive but, for over 1000.00 ??? silly.. lets face it, the technology is not out of this world.. open bolt guns are not that difficult to make or produce..i was impressed with the new matrix and of course, the autococker with the electro is very impresssive..at least they were accurate..so basically, i found the bud orr products and their sisters (nexus, ect) are still the best and if i send out over a thousand dollars it will be for bud orrs retirement.. but even then, the price just does not match the technology.. if i go the cheap route, the shocktech bushie will be it.. i shot the bushie and the angel and could not justify the added cost of the angel.. the bushie shot just as good.. anyway, that is my rant and just thought i would share with ya what i have seen since my return.. and of course, i could be wrong... :D

Well...I would agree with you...however...back in the day, when the Mag and Cocker ruled..a basic Powerfeed Mag, on its own (just a barrel, no anti-liquid or anything) was about £300 in the UK...the cocker was a similar price..and today they are still about the same...
What you have to remember, is that, even Globally, Markers are not mass produced in the numbers that other things are, as the demand is not as high, as say TV's.
So all the man hours, R=D, cost of buying CNC milling machines, everything, down to packaging..all costs money..and needs to be factored in to the retail cost.
The cost of a brand new car in the UK, has reduced greatly in the last few years, due to Government intervention...but, if they onyu made a few thousand of these cars a year, a £11k car would be more likely to cost maybe, £60k, to re-coup the development costs.

i hate the way my paintball gun is worth more than my car. But hey that is the way it is, and you gotta put up with it.....or make your own if you think it is that easy.

I disagree with you duder. It depends if you count cost as purely in monetary terms. I know for a fact that youngerplayers have less reponsibilities than older guys with families, and such. In this way, it is a lot easier for younger guys to pour all their money into playing rather than older guys having to pay mortages and such. Younger players have less responsibilities largely and usually have more free time.

i think it is harder for older players to afford it, as other factors drain their financial outgoings.
