paints are biodegradable as they are water based emulsions. but the emulsion part is partially made up of organic molecules.

as some organic molecules breakdown they produce organic acids; these will eat away at plastic, annodising, pretty much anything.

they also can stain stuff due to the acids being stained the paints colour, there fore when they eat away at your lenses they will leave a stain.

clothes can also be stained due to the organics being often hydrocarbon based. and as most people know oils stain.

Pink Paint is Bad, mmmmkay!

Basically from what i've been told its not the dye thats the problem, but the fixing agent.

Pink paint, and some green paint is a little unstable so requires up to 4 times as much stabilising. Various fairly nasty chemicals in the stabilizer, and a few weird ones like titanium oxide!!!!

So if you don't get it out of your kit really quickly it will get all nice and stabilised in the fabric, porous plastics and anything else it comes into contact with.

As for it removing anodising, ouch, nasty! I've never seen paint remove annodising, but it will remove the black paint from tippman 98's real fast!!!!!

I had a convo with a paint manufacturer a couple of weeks ago about Ti-oxide.. (i got the impression it was to make the paint really bright tho, not a stabiliser... but as im guppy-brained i could be wrong...) He told me that some batches of severe pink had contained Ti-oxide but as the Millennium series was so hot on non-staining paint they had to remove it from the fill (well for millenniums anyway, dont know about in general). That would explain why my top got so badly stained from it in the summer at an M25. With all the fuore a while back about pink fill paint we did some tests using RPS pink marb on various materials to make sure our paint was opponent-friendly (cos were a nice bunch!) . Never had any adverse effects whatsoever.

Ho hum, here we go again - someone (who is always not identified) says brand 'X' stains - then someone else says "No it doesn't" and the cycle perpetuates

Without independent testing - all this is heresay (and old news too), so the real question is: What happened to the people who said they were going to test ALL brands?

Don't know whats going on really. Not really sure who to believe about what. What I heard was that all paints had some titanium in it, but they were to keep the paints from going all sloshy and the dye separating out.

I could well be wrong. lets face it, no paint manufacturer ever wants to give out the details of what they put in paint, so the whole truth will probably never come out!

Well pinky, as far as identity you know who i am... and i did show proof to Sparklie and Liz on the same day who raised the point straight away with Jerry or John (again memory for names lets me down... ) But they weren' t interested. Sparklie as a result briefly banned severe (and i think zap?) but then a few hours afterwards was told to edit the thread and suddenly severe wasnt banned anymore. Pity she went out of business soon afterwards...
(Same disclamer applies as per original post in this thread.)
