I have heard that if something is North of the Watford Gap it ain't worth visiting.

I am North of said gap, and I would not bother with Kettering.

Manchester is the place to be.

Our motorways work, food doesnt cost an arm and a leg, locals are friendly (except the aforementioned scallies).

And the paintball is the best in the country

Come over to somanc!! We have the best nightlife, a thriving paintball scene, a great custom house & paintball shop, everything is (reasonably) cheap, and the houses are pretty reasonable.

I would reccomned a suburb like Altrincham to stay in, it has a metro station (this is how to get around manchester) and the houses are pretty cheap, and you also get less roving bands of the aforementioned scallies. There are also a few good, cheap hotels to stay in should you be too drunk to crawl home!

How about the beautiful midlands (Birmingham, if you can take the accent or Leicester, Coventry), idealy situated as a base for those weekend jaunts around the country. Placed at the heart of the countries crumbling transport system.

Easy access to the main, mainly static motorways and major, overpriced, infrequent, unreliable (Overstatement maybe) train system.

What kind of work will you be looking for or is that not an issue.
