...I agree. This is specifically with regards to the "Poodle" thread I started, but I mean it to apply across-the-board.

Some threads are Paintball related and others aren't, but specifically within the Speak Your Brains section I see one of the great things about the board as being a place where PAINTBALL PLAYERS can just shoot the sh!t. So what if I posted "I am the poodle" and a million people respond making fun of me and joking back and forth...the point is it becomes a dialogue of Paintballers, promoting our familiarity with one another, and IS thus "Paintball-related" regardless of the topic. No matter what the topic, so long as it's not harmful/derogatory/etc., I see no justification for any of the boards' moderators to unilaterally make a decision that the thread should be closed, especially when the 'ballers seem to disagree (based on their posts).

Please note (especially to Manning): I am NOT the slightest bit upset, mad, angry, or anything...I am just a bit confused as to what the role of these boards is, and your role(s) within them. I have logged on in the recent past onto two threads and found them closed...coincidentally both by Manning but those instances just raises a questionmark in my mind. You may think the poodle thread in particular was ridiculous and non-Paintball related...I would agree with the former though not with the latter...but I still don't agree with a decision to close 'em on that basis, especially in the SYB section.

Anyone else have thoughts on this? Am I off base? Lemme know.

As always, my humble opinion and (to re-iterate) this is NOT meant as a flame or anything along the like, and I am NOT mad, blah-blah-blah.

Lotsa love to all,
~J~

Whoooah

I go away for a week and what happens - tha world turns into a totalitarian state run by Manning?

Dude, that is waaaay too weird...had it been an intellect like, oh I don't know, Ices, I coulda understood maybe, but Manning ain't got tha IQ to be a despotic, cat stroking sociopath with his eyes on world domination.

Though he is a buddy of Rancid's...

Seriously, what's occurring while I bin away sorting out tha world's problems with my friends in Q Company?

Hey TJ! Welcome back. Did you aquire the mark the 'firm' had you going after?

My feelings on this. I have closed maybe two or three threads in my time on these boards as a moderator. The reason I closed these threads was because is because they had sparked up a controversy, which turned into a warzone, and nobody was willing to understand "the other side's" motives. So in the end I was kinda like the UN peacekeeping forces saying "fine, if I can't make you like eachother, at least I can stop you from fighting eachother". And like the UN, I ended up being the one getting shot at.
Now, I have not checked the 'poodle' thread yet, so I don't know how it ended. I also don't (yet) know what other thread you are talking about. I'll have to have a look first, and find out some more before I can comment on what I think of Manning's motives for closing them.
Correct me if I'm wrong Justin, but I understand from your post that you are against closing threads (unless, like you said, they exist for the sole purpose of pissing people off). I think closing threads has it's time and place. Can't think of any good examples right now though......(way to back up my argument)

TJ : Methadone. :)

Justin : I agree, becasue the SYB section is kinda nebulous in definition. I'm of the oppinion that threads that aren't flame wars ("You suck" / "You suck more") are harmless.

That and I like a good discussion, and in a good discussion you never QUITE agree on anything. Teh best discussions are two sides who won't yield, but will understnad the other side of the argument.

Besides, silly threads are a part of the internet. And paintball needs silly once in a while too, IMHO.

Buddha...

Buddha,

Based upon how I interpret your post, I would say my view is the same as yours.

Based upon how I interpret Manning's post which ended the "poodle" thread, I would say he ended the thread because it was "not Paintball related." That is merely my interpretation...whether or not it's true would have to be confirmed by him but I think it's strongly implied.

>>>>Correct me if I'm wrong Justin, but I understand from your post that you are against closing threads (unless, like you said, they exist for the sole purpose of pissing people off). <<<<

I'm more or less speaking about the SYB section, and with regards to it then yeah I'm against closing threads unless they're basically doing harm (that's general, I know, but still)...kinda like what you describe. In other sections (technical, etc.) I can understand closing threads based upon not being Paintball-related.

Others? Whaddya' think?

Lotsa love,
~J~

Budd: Put it this way - look closely next time you see tha moustachioed Iraqi guy on tha tube...look any diferent to you?

Tyg: U suck.:D

Justin: It's a balance thang - the odd non-pb thread is cool, it's when tha board is cluttered with em - which doesn't seem to be tha case so I got no probs but as I said, I bin away so don't know what's been going on...

Justin I too have shut a couple of threads down. Mostly due to reasons mention'd in your original post here. But just for ****s and giggles how does one find out who shut them down? I mean does the originator of the thread get an e-mail or what? Just curious.

another problem thats on the increase is Hijacked threads.
im talking about threads that start out with a purpose (ie asking for advise, trying to sell/buy something...) and end up being 3-4 ballers not associated with the post jsut using it as a personal chat thread.
is there anything that can be done to discourage this?
