Closing The Door on Women

First off I'd like to say that I have been a big fan of PGI since my local news stand started carrying it. I Believe it is by far the best publication of it's kind. There is only one problem with PGI and I think it's high time it was adressed.

Paintball mags in general seem to cater to men, and why not? Most of the participants of this sport are men. But if Paintball is ever going to be mainstream and if it is truely a sport where everyone is equal than the pball media will have to cater to women.

In this month's PGI for example there is an article adressing the 'Hunting For Bambi' hoax. The writer expresses great dismay at this negative objectifying of women, claiming that people will have the wrong idea about Paintballafter having see it. Adjacent to this article is an ad for Nitro tanks with skantily dresses anime women on them. Then not more then 17 pages later there is an article entitled 'She's All that' . In the introduction the author states that 'if she has the hari, the flair, the face, the legs, she's halfway there'...Can you say HYPOCRACY?!

The truth hurts boys but if this is going to be a sport for all we have to treat everyone equally, sexist advertising and objectifying of women by writers should NOT be tollerated. For anybody too lazy to read my whole rant or those too dim to understand what i'm saying here's a summary: Sex has a place in our culture, and it shouldn't be in paintball's.

It would seem that you can't.....hypocrisy

we have out own womens team and believe me they are far worse than the boys for being sexist. Also most of this sport is dominated by men. how many female players do you see out there? most women just don't get it. i understand where you are coming from but the demograph is men at the mo....

Don't agree with you sorry, seems to me like you might be the minority here. Never heard anyone share the same opinion.

I read all of it and still thought it was a lot of cr@p........what makes me laugh is, nobody forces these women to stand in front of a camera.
You ask any average girl if they wanna be pictured in a magazine.....well, it don't take no rocket science to work out what the answer is..
And I wonder if you looked at the new Dye ad with Alex Lundquist.......are we objectifying him unfairly?
Did you mention that?
Nah course ya didn't !!!

Want to get picky aboutspelling, eh? (Capital)W on we, OUR not OUT, and so on..

You obviously don't understand where I'm coming from. The demograph would be different if pbal wasn't portrayed as a male dominant sport. Any woman who opens a pball mag will see bikini clad women and whatever else. My point is that mags like PGI claim to be helping the sport but how is scaring away potential players helping our cause?

I know sex sells, but again: If PGI wants to help sport growth shouldn't it be more sensitive to female readers??? mak D here's a good bit of truth for you to chew on: There are other ways to sell paintball. Humor, product knowledge, and attractive displays sell. Check out the Evil site, the New Designz Site, the Hyper Sports Site, even the Warped Sports ads! The companies advertise without sexual objectivity and yet they sell lot's of merchandise. What do you have to say about that?

At the moment i am seeing this whole sexism thing turning around, and that women are becoming increasingly sexist towards men, while at the same time men are less sexist towards women.

Now, if i were to tell a woman to go and stand behind a sink, or say 'she's only a woman after all', all hell would break loose and i'd be branded a sexist pig. If a woman were to say 'he's only a man after all' it would be seen as perfectly accepatable, and there is something wholly wrong there.

rant over :)

Robbo, what a compelling argument. Unfortunately it is an irrelavant statement. Models are paid to be in ads, yes. Women want to be in mags, yes. PGI has to print these pictures, no. My point stands, pball mags use women to sell and entertain. Female readers can and will be offended by this regardless of what the woman in the picture thinks. Furthur more, mr. Lundquist is modeling gear, he's not scantily dressed.

Please, do try again Mr. Robinson.
