I just recently returned froma trip to New Jersey and one thing which suprised me was the number of fields that cater 'soley' for the wannabe tournament player. Or that do a lot for them.
Fields that aren't even bothered about rentals.
I was at one field where they just have teams turn up and play each other all weekend. It was like a mini tournament but much more relaxed and cheaper.
On the saturday they had maybe 10 teams but were expecting over 20 on the Sunday. It was a small field with only 3 fields (two supair).
Apparently most teams are there everyweekend. Many playing both days each weekend! I was told this is quite common, as well as evening practice during the week!
We do not have enough teams to support that kind of field over here yet.
Many of the teams/players were downright shyte considering how often they play! But there are definitely a lot more teams in the USA than Europe.
One thing I might say is that considering how often we play and practice we are quite good in comparison, but ultimately that means nothing when we end up playing the Americans. Most UK teams practice maybe once a month and play once a month? Twice a month seems to be the norm for many uk players. As compared to twice a week in the states.
Maybe, just maybe if our players played as much as the yanks we would be in with a chance?
