cheating out of control??

Cheaters will.

I've come to the conclusion that if a person / team wants to cheat, they will. As long as cheating is rewarded, they'll continue to do it. And why? Nobody stops them socially, or by rules. So you need to hit them where it hurts.

Want to stop cheating? Money fines. Player wipes, $100 fine. Player plays on after an obvious? $25 fine. Player argues with a ref? $200 fine, plus $5 a word, plus therapy bills for the referee if his feelings were hurt.

Only way it'll stop, but nobody will do it. Harsh? Yes, but it would work.

It will only work if there is a proper player register, until then I feel that any penalties will have to be points from the event totals which I outlined earlier.

Without an equivalent of the F.A. (Football Association) it can not be enforced... "Sorry mate, I don't have that kind of money on me"... how can you ban a player or persue fines without a proper body to do so.

Why? are you a ghost?
:)

Sorry mate, good point though. But the PA has a register......so that sort of thing will work there........ I've no doubt others will follow. Be good to get a national register going....... might keep markers out of the wrong hands too.

But that doesn't work, because points can be overcome. We win a game, 100 points. We get penalised 5 or 10? Bah, no big deal. And besides, they USED to point penalty teams, and they abandonded that a few years ago.

No, gotta make teams pay. Points are points, but $100 is a hotel room for a night, or a decent buzz in the brewhall.

I watched '03 WC coverage on OLN, and the games I saw (which were just the finals, mind you) were well reffed, in that refs were quick to pull guys who were hit and made some very observant calls, but at the same time, there were several hits were the refs were forced to go and pull a guy who HAD to have known he was hit. I think the best solution is overshooting. Really. If a guy won't go out, keep shooting him at 20 bps until he gets tired of it, won't take long.

yeah, i saw that.. one was knuths brother on the naughty dogs.. he was hit in the ankle or shin.. then, without even looking at it, he tried to hide it with his other leg.. the announcer even said "hey he tried to hide that " or something like that.. then the guy from shocktech who charged on of the naughty dogs and was peppered before he even got a shot off but, continued to shoot the the dog.. the refs were about to yank both of them out when another stepped in and put the dog back in the game and yanked the shock player,, good call except i would have taken another player as penalty..it was very obvious..one of the annoucers made a comment that i thought was pretty pathetic.. when the cover ups were talked about he said " well, it is the refs job to look for those and not the players" the only bad thing is that whole games could be ruined for certain teams while the eliminated player continues to reek havoc on the other team.. he could in fact eliminate other players (of course) to alter the game.. and for all that, he is not punished but just removed after the hit is seen.. b.s i can tell ya that in all the years i have played, there was only once or twice that i was unaware of a hit..

Is there a limit to the amount or marshalls? If not why not do what they do in basket ball, get one marshall per player and watch what they do. OK in basketball they take down all the statistcs but the same could be applied to Paintball only the marshalls pull them from the game when there hit. Would that be impractical?

If a player is on a bunkering run and gets hit before he gets there but continues to make the run and bunkers his target then couldn't a marshall wipe the bunkered player and take the runner off the field?

I sympathise (soz if I spelt it wrong Vortex!) with the runner because I wouldn't stoop and check if it had bounced, only to find it hadn't and been plastred anyway coz I stopped! I suppose you've just got to play-on until the whistles blown.

Unfortunately, the costs of this would be prohibitive. Reffing wages are probably the largest single outgoing for a tournament organiser and this would mean more than doubling the reffing costs.
A minor disadvantage would also be that the refs would probably end up following "their" allocated player around the field which is fine - as long as no-one has tried to do a sneaky move which their opposition has missed, but can see they have done due to their "shadow".

The cost of a few more marshalls isnt that high. Raise the entry fee by £1 per player, problem sorted.

With more marshalls on the field, wiping gets a lot harder. But then you have got to punish the players who get caught.

Why dont we pull the wipers for EVERY game left in the tourny, so you would play the rest with only 6 players.(or less)

As for playing on with a hit, well that should also be easier to stop with more marshalls watching, and pulling you stright out.

All this for a few quid more!

Who wants to marshall?

Its more a problem of getting enough people to ref, not the money side of things (although that is a factor). I don't know anyone who'd rather ref than play, the rewards jus arn't worth it.

Give people an incentive to ref, such as a ranking sceme voted by the players (where better reffing = more ca$h money+series points?) + people will be more willing to make balls'y calls instead of shying away..
