just thought i would share with ya what a spectator (my wife) said at world cup..as i stated before, my team is just now returning to paintball after a long time out (almost 7 years) and lot of things have changed..so we decided to pacjk things up and go to world cup to see it first hand before we have another go next year (and yes, we are older and slower).. anyway, after a few games i noticed something very disheartening.. very few players would willingly leave the game and would make a consciense effort to eliminate (play on) the other team player while it was quite obvious to himself and all the spectators that he had been eliminated..what made it worse was the lack of penalties addressed in that regard.. it seems like , once you marked your player, you better get the hell out of there because he was gonna take you with him..and with no adverse effect towards him in regards to penalties..i did not say anything for awhile but my wife (who was always with me in the tourneys back in the mid to early 90's) turned to me and said "boy, remember when cheating was not so obvious??" i laughed but, it got me thinking..why is this not addressed..?? i watched on the oln network the "02 world cup and the playing on was very obvious.. even while spectators are no more than 10 feet away..a buddy of mine who does not play anymore even said to me that it was so "in your face" obvious that he thought the rules might have changed... surely, with the spectators right there and more open fileds, the refs should have a better hand on this and penalties should be addressed...lord knows, when i was playing, we were penalized worse for less...also, the only team i saw (pro) that willingly left the field on a consistant basis was russian legion..i commend them for that.. but, how long can they continue to play straight and by the rules when clearly that is not the case for their opponents??

Just more money in it now, therefore more incentive to cheat........ no worse than a lot of other sports where cheating is pretty much endemic. Take soccer....... players dive on every tackle.... blatant cheating but just accepted as "part of the game". Maybe when penalties actualy cost a team something we'll see a change, but not before.

i agree.. but, that kinda was my point.. why is the reffing allowing this?? if penalties were accessed and it cost the teams placings, i think it would diminish greatly.. but, what is the incentive to stop.. it was rampant and quite obvious and nothings was done.. if your hit, get the hell out of the game..getting hit seems to be a ticket to run at the guy shooting and taking him with you..i was just shocked that it happened right in front of spectators with no attempt on the players part to hide it.. on then right on tv in regards to oln...what is the average person watching for the first time going to think??

what about if the dude gets shot and doesnt feel the hit? Im not saying this is what always happens cause its not, but this has to be taken into consideration when placing more severe rules.

Another problem with ensuring that penalties are actually given is having a reffing squad with the b*%$)ks to actually administer the penalties regardless of who is on the field.

There are only a few reffing squads who actually do this and will 1 for 1 your arse for playin on regardless of whether your pro novice etc etc.

i believe that steps are being taken to create professional reffing squads for the various leagues, so this can only be a step in the right direction.
