Some things to consider when choosing a team/field captain :

Best not to choose a bunker monkey as the field captain. The FC should be in a position where they can communicate to the rest of the team, be able to read the whole field & make play suggestions etc, so should be back or mid-field.
Best have an experienced player as FC.
Needs a strong personality as must be the final word on selection, field positions etc. At the same time, should NOT be a bully or very arrogant type, as that will only get players backs up & they will resent them. Equally, mustn't be "wishy-washy", must be able to arbitrate with on-field problems e.g. who goes where. Don't forget this person also has to talk to the field marshalls & other captain if there's a dispute on the field, so shouldn't be too hot-headed either!
Team Captain (if a different person) need some similar skills but also a few different ones. They have to be very, very organised, so they can sort out stuff like attendance, accommodation when needed, team finances etc.

A few months ago, some of us had a thread where we listed all the various duties a team/field captain has to carry out. It made scary reading! Shall we compile the list again here? Willing to get it started off if anyone wants.

First time electing Team Captain...

When we first had to elect a team captain at my first team (3-man) the 2 of us just persuaded the 3rd to do the job (He was a smartass who liked to decide everything...)

Then the 2 of us could concentrate on having fun and play paintball :p

Hint: When electing someone, use these criteria...

1) Must be respected by team
2) Must not have temper (Or you'll get in trouble)
3) Must have good knowledge to rules (general and at specific tournament)...

The rest comes in time, but at least follow these 3 advice and you'll be much better off...

This really is my face...
WHAT YOU PEOPLE SOUND LIKE YOU NEED...IS A HERO

Well Im with Darkwerks dude, you mdon't quite cut the mustard.
What you need is someone who:
# Will NOT crack under pressure
# Will fry the enemy first chance he gets
# Will make soldiers out of every man under his command
# Will scramble every man to their stations
# Will hard boil with rage at first site of the enemy
and most importantly
# Made entirely of protein with a yellow gooey centre

I've been €gg, thankyou very much

We do need to find a captain, but its going to be difficult, with all the egos we have!
The problem you'll have is finding anyone to actually volunteer rather than everyone wanting the job. All you have to do is list all the fun little things the captain has to do & all of a sudden the glory of standing up there giving a speach at the prizegiving really doesn't seem worth it!
Take it from me - captaining my second team now so I really do know:rolleyes:

Yeah I get that...

... problem is I can see that we will have a leadership challenge. Some members of the team will want to be the captain even if the others can think of better people. Personaly I don't have the time! So don't even think about nominating me! I'll just sit in the corner with my cunning plans bobbing around in my head. Much safer!

Again, easy to do. Let the ones that THINK they want to be captain, try it for a while. If you are wrong & they do a good job, then no problem. If you're right & they aren't any good, then they'll soon get really pi$$ed off with the $hit that comes with the job & let someone else take over. Half the problem with finding a good captain is getting someone who can actually put up with the job.
Oh, & try splitting the role into Team captain & Field captain then clearly define who is responsible for what. That way a) less chance of getting someone overloaded & b) gives 2 egos a chance to try it.
