Some things to consider when choosing a team/field captain :
Best not to choose a bunker monkey as the field captain. The FC should be in a position where they can communicate to the rest of the team, be able to read the whole field & make play suggestions etc, so should be back or mid-field.
Best have an experienced player as FC.
Needs a strong personality as must be the final word on selection, field positions etc. At the same time, should NOT be a bully or very arrogant type, as that will only get players backs up & they will resent them. Equally, mustn't be "wishy-washy", must be able to arbitrate with on-field problems e.g. who goes where. Don't forget this person also has to talk to the field marshalls & other captain if there's a dispute on the field, so shouldn't be too hot-headed either!
Team Captain (if a different person) need some similar skills but also a few different ones. They have to be very, very organised, so they can sort out stuff like attendance, accommodation when needed, team finances etc.
A few months ago, some of us had a thread where we listed all the various duties a team/field captain has to carry out. It made scary reading! Shall we compile the list again here? Willing to get it started off if anyone wants.
