Just a general observation about tank safety in general. As a qualified BSAC compressor operator when I fill a scuba tank it is my responsibility to ensure that it is:

a) in test
b) good conidition

If the answer to either of these is no then it doesn't get filled.

Which brings me onto my question - do site owners now need to take steps to ensure that all bottle coming onto their site are in test and good condition?

The most recent incident excluded (as I am confident that the person affected is knowledgeable on how to use HPA) The Fact remains that one is required to have mandatory training before being allowed to use a car thus partially eliminating user fault or error.

Any Chump can buy a 5k bottle and turn it into a mini diesel engine using petroleum based oil and a compressor.

It is about time that customers who buy air bottles have to recieve training or prove they know what they are doing.

obviously this problem is easier said than done as majority of new players buy second hand, however who has ever seen an instruction or safety manual come with an air bottle from new????

Fair point but the people this is happening to are not chumps, and yes while maybe in nige's case it could have been oil from someone else's bottle, I doubt that was the case at bullets/nexus training.

Bad old quote from a film I can't remember "when there is any doubt at all, there is no doubt" . Better safe than sorry I say.

So would you suggest that players continue to use the tanks until these results are made known ? So what happens if in the interim if another tank goes up and actually kills someone or a couple of people ? then the results are out and they say oh yeah perhaps it is the tanks are bad for some reason ?

Should this happen then I hope you have lots of your green tea and enya, because personally if it was my tank that blew up and killed people I would need lots to get me through it all.

How stupid would all paintballers be branded if someone did die and then the question was asked, "has this ever happened before?" oh yeah just the three times, but as no one was actually killed we carried on using them as we are waiting for some test results.......... bye bye paintball.

Honeslty, perhaps you guys should man up and use a slightly heavier tank that has no history of blowing up, reg or the bottle ? perhaps go to the gym and work on those arms a bit ?

enjoy your tea, I'm with Itchy TFN.
People can make their own minds up whether to use them or not. (I personally won't use a Stako.) Sites such as Freekz again also make their own minds up, and they have done. In Itchy's case (now Im wondering who he is in RL as he certainly knows my real name,) he was there for two of the bottle explosions so understandably he will feel more strongly and passionately about this than someone who hasn't been there.

Im an advocate of safety first, but I don't agree with people instantly blaming Stako. And no I don't have a Stako bottle, I have a Crossfire LP bottle. And Leigh I don't need to work on my arms lol Next time you are down Freekz get someone to point me out and you'll see :)

Definitely take care, (as we all should anyway,) and if you feel strongly enough against Stako bottles then simply don't use them. But acting as Judge Jury and Executioner of Stako before the report comes back is just plain daft. How many other bottles have had problems ? It just seems to me that Stako were the most recent and people are blasting them for that reason. Yes it may be they have a defect or a bad batch but the Millennium cleared them once already, so before every starts blaming Stako as 100% being the cause, remember that it could very well be not Stako's fault. (Although if Polish coke bottles are anything to go by...............grr)

FYI Phil, the 2nd incedent was at a Bullets / Nexus practise in Budapest, with a stako/reg owned from new
Fair enough, the people in that incident certainly know what they are dealing with and were very unlikely to be complacent with high pressure air.

The only other cause I can think of then is that if debris or oil found its way into the bottles during filling (through non user fault) or the heat from flash filling is causing the threads on the bottle (being aluminium (i believe)) to strip easier.

Aluminium melting point: 660.32 °C,
Stainless Steel: 1370 - 1400 °C

Brilliant.

I decide I don't want to use one but have to fill my tank next to someone who has decided that he will use one.

I made a decision for safety reasons but it is nullified by the other guy.

Then don't stand next to him. I should think that most sites will temporarily ban the use of Stako's until the official report comes back as to what happened to Nige's bottle. Just ask at the site when you turn up.

Yeah cos I have got x-ray vision and am able to see through tank covers...
I also have the ability to "sense" that tank flying across a "safe" zone before it hits my head...

Agreed, so all this waffle on this subject still points to the fact that, until proven otherwise the majority of players would prefer to err on the side of caution and see stako bottles suspended until offical enquires are completed and the results published.
