Booze ban at World Cup

Buddha, yeah, probably because you won't be there. As for the rest of us, the idea itself is insulting to say the least. What it attempts to accomplish may be a somewhat worthy goal, that is, to promote safety and decorum. The logic behind it, however, is pathetically narrow and unfortunately commonplace of the rest of society which paintball usually provides relief from. In short, it's saying that we can't drink responsibly and are drunken low class jackasses, so we should have a leash around us to keep us out of trouble. Rather than acknowledge that we're human beings, and that there are always a few people who just need to be dealt with on an individual basis BECAUSE THEY, NOT THE DRINK THEY WERE HOLDING did something wrong, whoever responsible for this idea decided the best thing to do is to look down their noses at everyone and assume them to be peabrained irresponsible morons and treat them as such.

And to the "we don't want the kids to see that" people, it's you that need to grow up. Withholding reality is like putting a hand up against a seawall in the middle of a hurricane: yeah, you'll maybe hold a cup or two of water back for a little while, but it just makes it gush harder when it breaks and you'll look like a moron for trying.
Would resolve your issues--then again, maybe not. :) It is a restriction being imposed by the event insurer and insurance companies aren't noted for their regard for anything except statisical risk assessments.

Hey Baca you know what else this ban will mean?

No Heaven !!!

and it was going to be done again :(:(

So its possible an off site Heaven ?? I wonder where ??

[Big empty space was confusing me so I made it go away. ;)
Ghost Cow :D ]

It was done to make you think, so you had to scroll down to find the answer ;) oh the space is back :D

[You call that an answer? Like those WDP weasels ever let me near Heaven anyway. The girls swoon whenever I'm around and all the youngbloods find it very disconcerting. :D (That was the Robo response--a tribute to the Hairless One.:) ) Ghost Cow, not to be defied by a mere mortal. :D ]

Even with that reason, at least a rational one, interestingly they chose to announce that stipulation close enough to the event date that teams planning on attending thus far wouldn't have sufficient time to make plans to go elsewhere. Oh well, suddenly announcing to people that the use of their time and money won't go as far as expected isn't totally unheard of within the paintball world, is it?

Baca you *****8 , ******5 , editing my post !!! just 'cos you had to use the mouse, Oh boy has your bar tab just raised a few $'s
You lazy (Ghost) Cow !! :D

TJ 2 seems to know what I mean lol (well I think he was referencing my post ? so hard to tell sometimes :) )

Alcohol ban is in place (so save some money no doubt, bit like the "smoking is now not allowed in our building for the health of the people" yeah right ...way cheaper insurrance as you have removed the fire risk, tell the truth don't wrap it up in political correctness) (oh I know the smoking thing doesn't apply generally in America 'cos it seems to be banned everywhere, just a UK thing) who "needs" alcohol straight after a game ? Do you as a trade stand worker/owner "need" to sink the suds ? the answer to all of those questions "should" be NO. For others to complain about things being changed last minute, yes schedules get moved about but since when was the need to drink alcohol in the wish list for a tournament. Yes I do drink and yes sometimes quite a bit but only when circumstances allow, if I have to wait until I have got back to my room and have a shower and then go to the bar and get a drink...no problem. Also if I can't have a drink (for whatever reason) I won't be upset cos I don't "need" alcohol to survive. Now if I was to be stopped from smoking....whole different thread, but then as a "sportsman" I hardly smoke :D :D :D (if you believe the last part of that sentence..... ).

I don't for a second doubt the savings on their insurance premiums from completely banning alcohol from site but as Teej implied and you inferred (or is that the other way 'round?) the promotors may have something else in mind--like some image modification for the whole event? And if so, what are the odds each of the Pro teams at least will get a little quiet talkin' to with the suggestion they be on their best behavior. . . ?

Wait a sec. Are you saying that you have no problems playing paintball with people who may or may not be under the influence of alcohol? I just want to make sure of this before I go on here. I'm not quite sure I believe that you would say that. I mean, they don't let people drive after "X" ammount of beers.

Athletes don't drink beer at events.

Period.

So basically it comes down to whether World Cup is an athletic event or one big party.

I'd prefer athletic event, and the no alcohol policy jives with that quite nicely.

Of course, even better would be a spectator area separated from the players where you COULD get beer and all sorts of other concessions, but maybe next time. You wouldn't be able to bring you own stuff into that area, but at least the teams could make some money off it and the costs of insurance which allows alcohol consumption are borne by the drinkers instead of the players at large.

And quit manufacturing conspiracies. As if anyone would not attend the event just because they can't drink on site - and if such a person did exist, good riddance. We're there to play paintball. The alcohol policy was most likely announced when it was because that's when they knew what the insurance policy was going to be.

bad idea, as someone who doesn't drink (don't ask) the only time i can really look good on field is when the opposition are are drunk or hung over.

Now its looks like I'll have to start traing and allsorts!
