Beat Petrol Prices UK

From what I heard on the news a couple of days ago, apparently near on 70% of what we pay per litre is tax.
This shocked me so much as I thought it has always been closer to 30-35%..

here is a quote from bbc.co.uk news
Why worry about crude oil prices, the core problem with British petrol is over taxation, isn't a 75% duty a wee bit too much, there's a point where it becomes ridiculous and highly abusive, you crossed that line ages ago, I keep wondering when UK voters will finally put their foot down.

The fact that 75 per cent of the cost of petrol is tax and duties says it all. Driving will turn into a hobby only for the rich. At least maybe we would all get a bit fitter if we stopped driving and walked a bit more. It would also stop this government carrying out a grossly over-the-top oppressive tax that hits everyone rich and poor.Matt, Trowbridge

IT's not really the petrol companies that are completely to blame, it's yet again the government.

Well that's my tuppence worth anyway.

the campaign to stop buying from the 2 biggest compaines was started 4 years ago when we had the last fuel strike....and look where that got us ......88p a litre and climbing (depending on your area)

Plus remember this....ESSO actual sell there fuel and deliver it to tesco, adsa and i think safeway.....so your plan is buggered from the start

Also do NOT put veggie oil into a diesel car....the engine does not like it without modification

If you want cheap fuel, get a petrol car and get a gas conversion done.....totally worth the money and pretty much the same amount of power and performance on a NORMAL family car (anyone in the Manchester area, i can put you onto a very good engineer for doing this)

Im all up for cheaper fuel, currently my motor gets 22MPG on motorways and 9MPG in town. Getting close to just getting some false plates and just doing a runner on the forecourts :)

Bollox to all the hippy ****, I need more fuel... Oh and bring back heavy leaded 5 star :)

but it was on top gear, explained it and everything, your meant to declare it as running on the oil then the government charges you 27p tax i think it is and works out around 40p a litre, but if you dont declare it it cost next to nothing to run..

You can run most diesels on vegetable oil.

You can either modify the engine (you need to heat up the oil or it wont atomise properly) or treat the oil(filter, mix it with other polycarbons).

If you are getting waste vegetable oil it needs processing anyway, so just treating the oil and leaving your engine standard is the common way.

Also it doesnt work on new Direct Injection diesels, or computer fueled diesels.

Summat like a peugeot 2litre turbo lump from 8 years ago would be perfect.
