I heard Sally Gunnell (of UK olympic fame) plugging this on the radio.

The BBC are running a big competition to find future sports stars for 16 to 18 year olds.

The idea is to take committed young people who wish to excell at ANY sport through a competition on TV (hence the nickname "Sport Idol") and the winner will get the best training possible in order to pursue their chosen sport. The "prize" will be appropriate to their sport, whether it be facilities, equipment or training (or all 3 ).

I thought it may be of interest because during the interview she was keen to stress it was for ANY sport and mentioned skateboarding, skiing, driving, synchronised swimming and even darts as well as the traditional stuff (football, athletics etc).

I can't see any reason why some of the young guns out there shouldn't apply. Hey, you could end up training with some of the US Pro teams or even Robbo :D

What a brilliant idea - do you think it'd be better if we, say, nominated a handful of people, or just have open house. For example, if the whole paintball community was behind player X, would he/she have a better chance of success than 50 players who just apply off their own bat? I'm just thinking that the benefit to painball over the benfit to any lucky individual.

I think getting as many people to apply as possible will work as the more people there is applying the more recognition paintball will get as a sport.

Burb, they wouldn't touch me with a barge pole - I still dress up in German uniform. They wouldn't let me play the Millennium cos I kept puncturing the inflatables with my bayonet.

But thanks for the kind words. And hey, I'm not that fkin old.
