BV, if you go back and re read my posts, you will find one that says, I am not advocating anybody vote for Calzaghe, it just so happens that Calzaghe is my choice and I backed up why I thought this; the point of me starting this thread was to suggest Hamilton was the least deserving of any of the nominees ...this is a point that seems to have escaped you.

It's not about being able to witness any of their achievements in that sense, it's all about according due excellence to athletes who are 100% responsible for their achievements.
It is self-evident Hamilton would not have won the championship if he had been in another car and therefore his achievements are reliant upon a superior technology whereas Calzaghe's are self-evidently not so.

Boxing is being killed off in this country. :(

ALL the good fights, the fights people want to watch are now held in the USA, and due to the time difference makes watching them for most people a huge no no.

Shame as there nothing better then a good boxing match.

Obviously you missed the Froch / Pascal fight last weekend then. Normal TV, reasonable hour, All 12 rounds and IMO, top three fight of this year!.
Froch has a real loose defence but one hell of a granite Jaw and hits like a truck.

Oh this could be good, because i used to think that ther was nothing better than a great boxing match, but, and i must stress this strongly, ?in my opinion? MMA is the future of combat sports.
It combines such a great mix of disciplines and on the whole, most of the top fighters are phenomenal athletes. The fighters generally have 3-4 fights per year with a 12 week training camp beforehand, for a lot less pay than most of the top end boxers.
I believe that Michael Bisping deserves some form of recognition for doing so well in a sport that is not really competed in by a lot of Britons. O.k not Sports personality of the year, he's not champ or anything yet, but it would be nice for the beeb to give it some coverage, they wont but it'd be nice.

Now actually going back on topic i do think Calzaghe deserves some recognition for what he has achieved in boxing but Hamilton will win because thats the nature of the British public. Joe Calzaghe tends to shun the limelight outside the ring, Lewis doesn't, he positively seeks it, and in our Heat/Hello/O.K. society Ithink that if a one legged transylvanian cross dressing transgender coke snorter, had breathed particularly quickly they would win it, if it made the front cover of Heat.

BigJim, you are right, I also think MMA is the future, even though in 5 years you can basically swap out the three letters of MMA and change them to UFC because this will undoubtedly dominate and become the defining brand of MMA.

There are many reasons why UFC will overhaul traditional boxing, most palatable, some not so, but it's a tide that will stop for no man.

As for your take on Hamilton, pretty much right, he's a media hype who can drive a bit fast.
The press seem want to define him with two USPs, he is black and he is a newcomer and obviously relatively young.
For some reason, these two aspects seem to elevate him above all others, not only in F1 but now the Hamilton hype is being shifted toward the BBC Personality Award ...it's media BS, complete and utter hogwash.
The third somewhat important factor to the Hamilton BS bubble is, he has won a few races.
Well done Hamilton, pat on the back mate ....... hold on a minute here, before I start going handing out any congratulations, am I saying this guy's the best driver at that event???
Let me ask you this, were you to put any of the other top drivers in his car, what then?????
We all know Hamilton drives the fastest car along with Ferrari, can we really call it the driver's championship when Hamilton wouldn't win it in another car and other drivers have a much better chance if they drive the Mclaren of Ferrari????
No we can't, calling it a 'driver's' championship is a joke.
Put them all in the same spec'd car, then go race, then we find out the best driver, anything less than that is media hype.
