Imagine yourself in a three dimensional universe with only Length, Width and Time (a big sheet of paper if you like)

Now consider trying to explain the fourth dimension (depth) to an inhabitant of our hypothetical 3D Cosmos when they have absolutely no concept of it at all.
While you're at it, try explaining 'green' (or any colour) to a person that's been blind all of his/her life.

Good lord! The things you people discuss!
All I know about the slowing down of light is that some of the current fashionable theories (it seems that the origin of our universe gets changed every now and then) say that in a black hole gravity is so damn strong that it can actually 'suck' in light. Bizarre.....
Now, all you people who have posted more than two posts on this topic, I seriously think that you need to get out more often. :D
Beaker, having looked at some of the websites you spend time dwelling on, I worry about you...:D
Now modern history, there's a topic worth discussing.

If I could get out of here and still get paid I would.

If you want to talk modern history be my guest. My specialist subject at Uni was Foreign Policy with special attention to the Middle-East, Post Cold-War international relations and Great Power Politics :)

Robbo, You have Stephen Hawikngs E-mail?

Robbo,

I think that we may well be at crossed purposes (who would have thought it, a cosmology discusion getting confused...)
I have never heard of "M-Theory", the idea of an originally infinite universe is (as I understand it) just part of the "Standard Model". This is what Carlos Frenk, Durham Uni's top Cosmology dude says, and who am I to argue.

Modern History... now there's thought.

This is a bit random, and probably a very long shot, but does anyone reading this have any idea what the platoon and company level organisational structure and orbat of a Russian 1980's motorised infantry is? I.e. how many LMGs, RPGs etc per section, how many to a section etc.

Ah, I think we might have got a bit off topic...

Why don't you ask these nice people? They should be able to help you out...
