Autococker vrs. Automag

Autococker

Welcome to one of the oldest debates in paintball. Mag owners will tell you mags are better, conversely most 'cocker owners will tell you they are better.

I prefer cockers; while the stock cocker is upgradable, it might be better to buy one that is already upgraded (e.g. STO eclipse, evo etc) these are already serious pieces of kit (even more so than the stock cocker, which is also good).

Mags probably have their advantages, but I have never owned one, so I wouldn't know therfore my opinion of which is better is probably not worth paying any attention to.

My advice to you is try them both out. The cocker trigger (whether it be the double, single or the pivoting styles) are a bit odd, they suit some people and not others. I have never had a problem with any of the cocker triggers, but some people do.

So try them out before you get one.

About upgradability... just because something is upgradable that doesn't mean it is good, there are upgrades that achieve nothing, and if the original kit is not upgradable, that could be becuase it is already as good as it could be.

Loads of people will probably jump on this thread to say that one or other are better, but the truth is probably that it depends on the user.

Though a question... how many pro teams out there use automags? Not many I would imagine (though it is just possible I am an ignorant fool :D)

Good luck

ooohhh - is that a fresh can of worms I hear opening? :D

This argument has been going on for well over a decade! In short, the best thing is to try 'em both and see which suits you and the type of game you play best. There should be enough people around who own them to oblige!

As a classic mag owner, I'm impressed by it's reliability - it's never gone down on me or chopped a ball (sounds rude). There's not much you can customize on it, other than switching to air and using a retro valve, but then I quite like the fact that I don't have to spend oodles to get the best out of a marker - it's designed already to work as well as it can. Plus the company ensures that the above mentioned upgrades work on even the basic model guns. Can't vouch for the new e-mags as I've not had a go, but they probably have more in the looks/twiddling department if that's what floats your boat. Some of the new components also offer features such as no shootdown, which would certainly help older mags.

My mate (goatboy) owns a cocker on air, and finds the range and consistency better than my mag (which is on CO2). Cockers are rumoured to be fiddly and have reliability problems, but if you know what you are doing and don't go hammering your marker into a tree, it isn't any less reliable than a mag. I also think the way the back bit slams back and forth is too cool for words, but that's me. Plus you can replace/upgrade and fiddle with just about anything on a cocker for your own set-up which appeals to a lot of people. I'll give him a shout so he can wax lyrical for you . . .

With the introduction of the level 10 mod I think you'll start to see a lot more mags/emags/emag-extreme's about.
Briefly the Level 10 mod eliminates bolt chops which was always a bit of a problem on mags.

I have a biased opinion but what the hell. Cocker all the way, much better marker. Well made, reliable if you can resist opening it up. Oh and if you feel you can't fire it fast enough just buy a Race grip. Also the list of aftermarket parts and add-ons is crazy.

Go with the a stock cocker, best value for money in paintball :D

well well well, whadda we have here??

...ooohhhh... a cocker/mag debate! Shove over Jones, let Goatboy get a piece of the action.

Let me start by saying that Richard pretty much summed up my thoughts on this debate in a nutshell. It's not so much what we think is the better marker, but more a case of :

what you intend to use the marker for? (Tourney/Rec)
which you prefer shooting - after trialing both?
how deep are your pockets?
how tempted are you by upgrades?

The two markers are both very good, and for my money either of them represent an excellent first gun.

Everything I ever won of any significance in Paintball was with an Automag....I was never outranged or had a more accurate gun shoot against me.........and I was always playing with guys on both Aftershock and All Americans who were using Cockers..........and so my point ?....there is none....just like there is no point in asking....what is the better gun.......

'Beauty', as they say, 'is in the eye of the beholder', and my Mag...was beautiful :)
Get it ?

I'm biased as hell but hey...
The cocker is in my opinion way better than the automag. Again, it's all an issue of personal taste cause these are both very good markers. But if you are referring to the .68 automag against the stock autococker there is no doubt that you get more from a cocker.

Cockers do not have reliability issues if you dont mess with them. Words of wisdom: If it aint broke, dont fix it.
They are known to be the most accurate and upgradable markers around. -If you dont like the ROF you achieve (a matter of skill really), you can always make yourself kinda broke on a pivoting triggerframe or more broke on a Racegun or sandridge electro modification. If you are looking for a already customised cocker i would strongly suggest the ANS Gx-3 Chaos cocker. There you get tons of performance and great badass looks for 600$. As for MAGS i have some experience there. The Automag .68 classic is a nice marker but just doesn't do it for me. The RT achieves some insane rates of fire...when it works....Which, in my experience isn't very often. Basically the RT sucks ass, but didn't back in the day. E-MAG's i havent tried, but i have tried the E-MAG extreme, or extreme-mag with warpfeed that really kicks ass.

It all comes down to trying and finding out what works for you*

*GO COCKER

Would you care to enlighten me (pun intended) as to the occasion when the speed of light is not 3 x 10 to the 8 m/s ?
