ATTENTION!!! Important info for people waiting for ADSL MAX rate, or who have it now.

Peeps.

If you are waiting for activation of ADSL Max Rate up to 8Mbps etc...you need to know this.

Make sure, that you turn your Router on and off twice a day, or if using a modem, unplug the DSL lead twice a day, during the 10 day initial setup period.

This is so that the system that monitors your circuit, and sets its MAX reliable rate, can see how well your line is doing as it needs to see several "Sync Events".

It is VITALLY important that you do this, or you could end up with a line that is choked needlessly.

For those that have MAX RATE...it will be worth doing for a week or so, to make sure you are getting the best you can.

It is also worth doing it once a month or so, or however often you like, throughout the life of the connection.

More helpful advice, for those PAINTBALLERS, using ADSL Broadband to access this site, from your local, friendly ADSL Engineer!:D

Mods, hope you dont mind.

8-meg? - pah!

Nothing but 16 here (good old adsl 2+) :):):)

Still - good advice (especially if you don't have a draytek router - and why would you - unless you are rich?)

Yup - took the plunge and went over to the dark side of ADSL - Bulldog!

DrayTek routers are the dog's bits when it comes to xDSL routers. I've installed lots of different ones in the past (I was an original ADSL test site for BT as I only live up the road from a big exchange ;)).

Trouble is, they cost at least £100 more than your 'cheapo - PC World special' routers - they are a bit 'specialised'.

BTW Gaz - you got an ION breech knocking around (one with ION threads)?

Draytek are the best router manufacturers on the market, but expect to pay more than 'cheapo - PC World special' routers.

Settings and every other aspect of the router are much easier than others.

Out of interest ( and apologies for thread hijacking ) what are bulldog like as an ISP? I've heard varying things :)

Interesting piece of info regarding the router though!

I've heard all the rumours as well - and saw Watchdog. I can honestly say that I have had no problems at all with them (they even activated a day early).

Downspeed does tend to vary a lot - but that's mainly due to the fact that I live on a busy street (broadband wise).

When it is 'quiet' I get the max that the uploader can give (have tested with a friends 10-meg leased - and got just under 9 this side).

ADSL2 will soon be the norm - but until the up-speeds improve - don't expect that edonkey download to fly just yet ;).

As for DrayTek - the lead the way for other manufacturers to follow - www.draytek.co.uk (and no, I don't work for either DrayTek or Bulldog).

HTH

BTW - I've got the 2800G (cos I'm rich - or rather - work is).
