Do you play intense, in-your-face, loud and nasty PB or do you at least wish you did?
Then how come most of you hang around the edges of the forums and end up being too polite or too timid to jump in and ask a question, or offer an opinion, or shout down the last guy's post? (Nothing wrong with a little friendly conflict as long as it doesn't devolve into pointless name calling.)
It is entertaining to read a good thread where two inteligent people make lots of good points. It really makes me feel badly though when one person stoops to abusing another person. If you really believe what you're saying the weight of the truth should be enough when i comes to an argument.

Example x-ball. There's a lot of good ideas to explore regarding x-ball, but most people are afraid to post about it because they're afraid of being told that they don't know what they're talking about. There's some really smart people, and a lot of experince here on the boards, some really good ideas might never see the light of day because people are afraid of getting verbally smacked down for saying what they think.

I know smack talk happens on a lot forums, but here it's not necessary. People who make inteligent points get my respect, people who tear each other up to enforce their point don't.

Kids,
You're making my point for me and I appreciate it but--
I'm still trying to figure out how it is any of you sensitive souls out there play Paintball?
Who cares if some anonymous non-entity with a computer doesn't like what you posted? Or doesn't think it contributed to a particular thread? Or has an unfriendly comment aimed your way?

Colin--I quite understand your point and don't disagree with it except to the extent of suggesting all the fence sitters toughen up a little bit.

Goose--way to be non-controversial. ;)

Woz--don't worry, be happy

Pipes--tell me something I don't know.

Well, that's just the thing.....indeed, if someone you don't know says he doesn't like your post, you just ignore that person, because he/she is wrong anyway. :D

However, there are a lot of people on these board who know each other one way or the other, some a bit more or less than others, but mostly there's some sort of connection......and that's where people get all itchy about everything people say about each others posts and what not.

For instance, there is a fair chance you don't know who I am. But you do know Buddha 3........and since there is an apparent link between the two of us (please, no gay remarks OR fat jokes), there is a good chance you will care more about what I say, than what some Joe Schmoe has to say about anything. Vague? Yes. True? Probably.

After said all this, there is a really big chance no one will react to all of this, or will even want to mention my name in this thread, because the most of you have a sense of humor to big not to take the opportunity to take the mickey out of me and my post. :D

Sure the should toughen up, you're challenge is a fair one.
Maybe the point i'm trying to make is that we should be discussing paintball, and making an attempt not to make it personal. The most of the mods do a pretty good job of keeping the peace.

Mad Cow, did you post this because you're seeing the same people dominating all the threads?

I post...

In the last few weeks I have:
Bought things on the classifieds,
Been insulted by Bacca (is that banner better?),
Had an animated discusion about modern physics with Robbo, Confused the hell out of everyone on the "Underwater Paintball" thread
Embarrased myself infront of the entire forum for forgetting which way anti-clockwise was
Posted on the thread about the SP Nerve
Had a brief exchange with on of the players from Dynasty.

I don't really know any of the PGI movers and shakers (Jay and I have never actually met...) but I post what it occurs to me to post. I have never been flamed (or I just don't notice) and if I disagree with what is said I'll say so and I'll say why.

Mind you I suck at paintball...

Edd--you are correct in suggesting that most of the problems actually occur when the posters know each other one way or another and bring their dirty laundry into the forums with them--and not vice versa.

Colin--in part. Also wanted to challenge folks to be a part of what's going on because while more voices might be a bit more chaotic it will certainly enrich the whole process as well.

Richard--I think your recent experiences are exemplary of what most folks can expect here at P8ntballer. :D
And do you really want me to comment on your new banner? ;)

I don't think being a "sensitive soul" is a detriment. Its because a paintball game is divorced in most ways from reality. You are afterall aiming to "Shoot em all, Let the Ultimate sort em out".

Whereas these boards aren't the "Game". They are public and people tend to revert back to their normal try mostly to be nice attitude. This is especially true for those of us who use real names and not some wierd psuedoname unconnected to us.

(Or it could all be that everyone cares so little that they just can't be bothered to post in the first place, rather than worried about someone making fun of them.)
