i agree, its a cool little marker that fair enough top teams probably won't buy but to be fair,

for the teams that are div 2 and 3 that can't afford, for example, a DM4 for a back up gun then why look any futher.

For instance i'm a student and when i buy a new gun i sell my old 1 first but if i wanted a spare then i'd be looking at this cheap little bad boy.

on a business (and on a: with fingers crossed) point of view, ths new release should push other companies to create rival products, which in turn will attract new potential players as the equipment will be substantialy cheaper

New div 3 teams will be much easier to create, plus younger talent will be attracted to play as they have to pester thier parents for about £500 less money.

I wouldn't take one for free, simply due to the poisonous effects Smart Parts' "business model" has had on paintball. It is immoral and parasitic to behave as the Gardeners have and I reject everything they put their hands to. I am no one influencial, but I can choose what I do with myself and my money.

It is nice that players can get into the sport for less money. I think the whole outer-body thing is damn clever.

And so you should my friend, i hate people that are led by trends or fashion, rather than buying what's right for them from the supplier of their choice !
I have mixed views on smart parts and don't know anywhere as much about them as most on here, but although i live 20mins from SP (UK), i still mail order most of my stuff, SP markers i think are fairly priced but everything else is generally OTT, hence why i shop elsewhere but the ion is priced just a bit to temptingly, i'll see how they last but i feel a spare marker coming on?

Excellent subject tho thread starting question is a bit open to interpretation.

Gyro--I think if that's your criteria for PB purchases you're gonna have a mighty small selection to choose from. Not that I'm in any way defending the Gardners, simply noting they are the perhaps the highest profile offenders but hardly the only ones.

Anyway, the Ion is gonna change the marketplace and do it in two ways. 1) it's straight competitive where it counts--on the field. A few teams, including Miami Effect, were using some Ions in LA and they performed well. In a 15 bps capped universe they deliver. 2) it changes the concept of the customizable marker. Instead of paying three or four times as much for a marker you plan on adding "necessary" extras to you can begin with an Ion instead. And wait until somebody starts producing designed and anodized aluminum shells for the Ion instead of plastic.

Further the niggling sorts of failures that drive you nuts in a $1200 gun don't seem quite such a big deal in a $280 gun. Now if SP would only build a decent detent . . .

Seriously, this gun is gonna force makers to come up with new, better reasons to spend $1200 on a gun than they offer now.

This thread wasn't actually meant to be having a pop at SP, rather more what effect the ion would have on paintball in general?
New players?
new teams?
Other companies losing marker sales?
the collapse in values of s/h markers?
but it's good fun anyway

for the questions u justed asked YES new players are goign to beable to get in to the sport faster and cheaper , which is great for the uk scene, hopefully that will lead to more teams. Other compayns losing sales is a tuff one as iv noticed these markers are manly been bought as spares, timmys, egos, shockers and the such alike wont lose out on sales but spiders and all that kind of starter marker they will be the ones to suffer more.the only other part is second hand markers the pirces i imagen will com down wen ppl fully realise how much bang for buk ypu get with these

well thast ma opinion guess time will tell

The Ion Market.

At the present time SP are 8000 + back ordered and the figure is
growing. To help with the disscusion many of the store's are reporting a increasing amount of the Ion sales are being snapped up by Shocker and Impulse owners as 2nd guns and in some stores due to the limited amount being shipped the new players are not getting a chance to buy these guns.
This has been a suprise as the gun was aimed at the lower market the kid that wants to upgrade from a spyder.
The other intresting fact is that many of the reviews are comparing the Ion against the Dm4/ Timmys and not the A5 tippmans or high end spyders which is were Smart Parts put the price.

Just my thoughts.

good

the ion can only be good for the sport, more people can afford to buy a marker, and play in the woods or sup air.it will make other manufactures look at there prices and maybe sp could run an all ion tournament then we could if its the marker or the player who are good. when are we going to get improvements on the paint the markers are only as good as the paint?????
