I watch the news as a matter of course, but that's so I can stay informed about whats going on in the world and try and work out where I maybe sent next.

Have to agree though all we see now is doom and gloom.
About the Prince Harry thing there is probably very little chance of him being capture but it's the knock on affect, all patrols will get contacted harder and the Taliban are less likely to leave the area because of the chance of capturing him. This then increase the risk to all the troops in the area.

Oh please are you lot really that fekin Niave ...The whole point about the press release on the Royal inbred twat was so that they had a good excuse to bring him back without the public moaning that he wasn't doing his job..It was pathetic and whats even worse is it seems to have worked..jeeesus.

For example

I'm only happy that he actually did his job and went out there, not happy about the pictures themselves. I would have been just as happy if i saw them in 3 months time.

I know what you mean though mate, the lads who are alongside him must know that they are standing next to someone on the Talibans Most Wanted list :(

The $hit thing is now they know he's in HP so are gonna be putting more manpower into finding him if he's on thier turf

You read the Sun don't you ...believe everything they say yeh ..baa baaaaaa.

If the news was supposed to be positive then they should post daily how many they think are in the Taliban and then beside it post up the body count with how much of the country has been won over with the hearts and minds porject. Then we can start sending the asylum seekers back, ok some need to stay for valid reasons.... but I bet about 65 - 70% should return sooner than they do.

That in itself would be good positive news (In my humble opinion)

I'm watching the news as we speak and completely agree about the content.

Just watched 10 minutes of a man getting upset and speaking about 150 odd people being crushed to death in the underground in 19-something-something with no metion of why it was relevent. Is it the anniversary or something?

I genuinely think they were looking for something upsetting to report on. Because people have morbid fascination with anything like that.

And for the record I genuinely believe Harry did not want to leave Iraq. It must be horrible to have trained to do something for such a long time and not be able to do it. Naive maybe but that's my p.o.v. And I don't believe in war, but I still think the American media were out of order (but then, when are they not!).

IMO the news is made up of four things at the moment - Iraq/Afghanistan, US Elections, Other half major things & the bull**** happy stories that you see on the regional news.

To be honest, the news would be pretty **** if it was just a bunch of happy stuff, they show the real news.

The thing with the news is that if one thing is to happen like a kidnapping or a kid going missing, people will continue to watch it until they find out what has happened (e.g Madeleine Mccann, they're still going on about her now and it's nearly been a year). When something like that happens, they will have a whole week-long special on it, making people watch it. They will tell you about the thing, give advice, and generally make you think about it and want to follow it.

With Prince Harry, I honestly don't see the huge deal - I don't think the taleban really gives a **** about him. There are troops coming home all the time, some even injured or dead, but you never get to hear about them! However, I agree with Kat, I don't think he really wanted to leave.

Minor Point Kat but it is Afghan (Real war) not Iraq(peace Keeping) and you are spot on about the American press!!1

Woops sorry! All the same to me, I try not to watch it.

Happy mothers day :p

Plus, as much as the English media *cough* The Sun *cough* are idiots for the most of it It does highlight the difference between the English and American medias in my opinion, English media talk utter rubbish about irrelevent things, but for once kept quite about something genuinely important that could have caused even more lost lives (just what we need) regardless of money it could have made them.

The American Media couldn't even grasp that. Makes me angry.

Some happy news would be nice, but not at the expense of real world issues - there are things that just need reporting.

The media is already messed up enough not reporting some things that go on around the world - they are highly "selective".

Saying that, the controls that are on media and the owners of it can pretty much paint any picture of the world that they want us to see, so of course, you are never going to get the full story, and probally never the full truth.

Its the soul reason i don't bother watching the news anymore. I might pick up a paper now and then but as for watching it on a regular basis.. no.
In all honesty.. its depressing and puts a bad view on everything, along with alot of the stories being "unfactual" I'd rather use my time doing something else.
