yer i heard that one test was harsher than the other but surely if a bottle had been over stressed for one test then it would automatically fail?

It is only illegal for commercial filling of DOT bottles, if you have your own dive tank, you can therefore fill it yourself.
That is the problem with the law it is not consistant.
H-PAC will confirm that the law states commercial filling and not all filling
But in this case the players lives abroad anyway so there is no way, he is going to be able to fill it here

The reason for the request to stop this thread is 'cos the subject comes up about every 6 weeks, the advice doesn't change (unless someone new to these type of threads "thinks" they know something new) repeated asking of the moderators to make a sticky with all the info needed on the subject has never happened hence the subject coming up time and time again.

To use a DOT in the UK is allowed by a visiting foriegn national (not an english passport holder) (but certain sites "may" also NOT allow the use due to their site insurrance)

COMMERCIAL filling AND testing of DOT bottles is ILLEGAL within the UK

Self filling from dive tanks IS allowed but see above for sites allowing this practise.

Dual bottle testing is NOT possible AFTER it has been retested to one of the labelled standards. Due to the differences of the testing practises will over stress the bottle so that if it is tried to be tested by the opposite test then it is very likely to fail.

A new EU standard has been talked about and is "supposed" to be coming through very shortly. Whilst on paper this sounds good, all this will do is further confuse the issue 'cos of all the previously good bottles now are not marked as having being "new" test compliant.

Looks like paintball shops are gonna do pretty well then when this new euro law comes through then as everyones bottle ain't gonna be the new standard ......

I'll shut up now then seeing as this thread keeps coming up- did'nt know, sorry. You probly guessed I'm new to these forums ;)

I got all the info i need on the subject now, so thanks alot for your posts guys.....

happy 'ballin :D

Update

Just to finally clarify issues.....

Smart Parts do sell a dual certified HSE/DOT bottle. I know this because I just bought one.

The HSE are moving towards a different certification mark which is the greek 'pi' sign. As a result, there is presently a shortage of HSE certified bottles as all the manufacturers (luxfer et al) are gearing up to make bottles with the new test certification.

With the new certification, these may be used all over Europe (but still not the US).

And yes, I have a DOT bottle which I can only now use as a doorstop.
