It's about attitude

With the options provided by the given elements:
the field layout, number of players on a team and the set game time,
Different teams use it in different ways

Some teams will make an offensive gameplan
and want the game finished asap by putting so much pressure on their opponents, so the opponents are forced to make mistakes

other teams will make a game plan that is defensive/counterattacking and wait for their opponents move/mistakes

so no matter what the game time or fieldlayout is
it's those mindsets that makes an agressive game or a more defensive game

Time bonus is propably the stupidest idea ever in paintball, IMHO. How long the game lasts has nothing to do with the game quality. I rather watch down to the wire hard fought games than 30s run thrus. Also, seven minutes is not that long if the game turns out to be a boring stalemate.

There are different kinds of game qualities. I really enjoyed the days of 10-player, 20-minute woodland games in which we really took our time. Sometimes it was a matter of which team had the patience to wait out their opponents. It also had a lot to do with how hard and smart you pushed in the last 3 minutes.

But some of the most exhilarating games I've ever played are the "power-plays" where we predicted the responses to several simulaneous moves that ended up in a total beginning-to-hang sweep. We rolled the dice and usually came up with a win.

The latter isn't better than the other. Just a different kind of skill, like fast-break chess (or whatever you call it).

The game's emphasis has now sihfted away from the traditional toward what's important to the spectator for obvious reasons.
It just so happens that what people like to see is also exciting to play i.e. aggressive games.
Watch any boxing match, what gets the crowd going more, two guys pussy-footing their way round the ring counterpunching or two guys going at it like animals ?

Aggression is exciting and your comment regarding seven mins not being that long if it stalemates, you are kiddin right?
The TV would have been switched off after the first minute; in TV land one minute is an eternity let alone seven.
I think a time bonus is a good idea as long as it is done right !!

Hey Robbo

Remember Euroball last year? That was a time bonus tourny!EVERYBODY loved the idea and it adds a certain incentive to the play to hear the ref at the end of the game shout "Time BOOONUUUS".

The issue really is not time as I cant really remember ONE match from this years millennium what ended with a "time up" most of them were over in 5 mins.

The real issue is the smaller fields imho! Especially if smaller fields will be coupled with small backguy bunkers, that will get people bitchin!

Now we are really getting ahead of ourselves :D

As if the games will be aired live when Paintball is televised
that will only happen with a paintballchannel which has to air
24/7

You can roll yer eyes as much as you like but Fox Sports has already signed up with Pure Promotions and the NPPL to do six shows showcasing tournament paintball.
Now what do you want them to show the American public, seven minutes of pussyball or three minutes of kick-ass, in yer face, train crash paintball ?
We are not getting ahead of oursleves at all, we are laying the ground work for what is right in front of us.
The Millennium has to align itslef to the US circuit in some way and if that alignment means we need to tweak our format to make paintball a more presentable product, then so be it.
I'm surprised you made it out of the woods:rolleyes:

To me U made it sound as if a full sevenminutes of pussyball will be televised, as in Live television and i doubted that
with the getting ahead of ourselves remark.

I was fully aware of the FOX PSP deal but safely assumed
their coverage won't be live but highaction packed segments

so if there is a great gamewinning move after 6.30 of pussyball
they FOX/PSP will make sure the move is incorporated in the 45 to 1.30 segment about that game.

So whether or not it's all in yer face, train crash paintball or pussyball the showcase of the event televised will show the actionpacked stuff and not the pussyball games
(which can be stil be actionpacked on a different hard to televise level.)

but to follow your line of arguing
what if someone with an even better TV Deal offering says
3 minute games with only 10 objects on an even smaller field are the way to go ?!?

Should the PB world follow that too ?

>>I'm surprised you made it out of the woods<<

I am suprised u think u need such a remark to make a point.

The spectating of tournaments in the future will not be consigned solely to TV, events will attract spectators and as such, these games will be played in real time and consequently have to be attractive to watch.
TV highlights of train crash paintball are going to be a lot more attractive than highlights of pussyball, no matter what way you try and wrap it up.

If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle; to ask me what I would do if somebody came along offering a TV deal that involved 3 minute games etc is nonsensical.
At the moment we have a certain degree of control over our own destiny, we need to use it sensibly or fall by the NXL wayside.

And as for u being surprised by my last remark in my last post.....try not to be :)
