It's apparently better for it to either be too big or too small. Or so all those PB geeks say. I don't understand it, it does make sense that a big ball in a narrow tube would shoot better.

I doubt it but whenever you get some paint, try it. Put one in one end of the barrel, and blow through it. If it rolls out without blowing, the paint is too small, if when you blow it doesn't go through, the paint is too big. But, if when you put the paint in it maybe rolls for a bit, stops somewhere and then you blow it and it comes out easily, then you've got the perfect paint.

Just note down what paint it is and the rough temperature and so you will know whether or not to buy that paint again.

Shimples ;)

Well not for me. If it rolls straight through the barrel, Im shooting it. If it gets stuck half way, I may get a barrel break mid game, and it could cost a tournament. I always overbore, and never have any issues. It doesnt effect efficiency, it doesnt effect accuracy, so why risk it?

Yes you can phill, as I do exactly the same. You will need one of these http://www.lpspaintball.biz/acatalog/Air_Co2_System_Accessories.html

13th item down quick release female connection if you are running a 1/8th bsp hose from your bottle or one of these if you want to screw directly in to the bottle
you will need 17th item down and that depends if you running an a-clamp style tank or din.

I have a 7ltr 300bar bottle and I get approx 3000 psi fills for the first couple then gets less and less everytime.

Hope this helps.

i generally dont bother with all different barrel sizes, i just use the same barrel i got with my ego in the stardard size .698 i think and that has always done its job and done it well

Overboring is a bad idea on closed bolt markers like cockers. The ball sits forward of the detent when loaded, and can roll down or out of the barrel if tipped downwards. You'll either get missed shots or partial rollout, which effects velocity & accuracy due to range variations.

That being said the majority of markers are open bolt, so overboring isn't such a problem. But it still effects efficiency through gas wastage.

There's no substitute for shooting practice drill, and using good quality paint. I've heard guy's complain they struggle to hit targets consistently. When you watch them play they just stick the gun over/around the bunker without aiming at all - spray and pray

Yea but its fairly minimal. Like not enough to worry about. Id rather have 50 shots less in my tank and have every ball come out of the barrel.

True

I overbore my open bolt markers for the same reason. The PM7 in particular breaks a lot of paint in the barrel if you go too tight.

I think the theory of deliberately overboring or underboring is as follows:

By matching your barrel perfectly to the paint, variances in the paintballs will have a bigger effect.
A slightly small ball and your overboring.
A slightly large ball and your underboring.

So matching the barrel to your paint gives the largest difference in velocity for a small variance in the paintball diameter.

In comparison to just underboring or overboring where variances in diameter result is varying degrees of overboring/underboring.

IE Matching your barrel bore to your paint is less concistent than deliberately having your barrel bore too big or too small.
Thats the theory anyway. Im not saying I subscribe to it.

Like many people I just use the same large bore barrel.
If it made any difference to use a properly sized barrel I would do that.

But I also have a hard time beleiving that a paintball breaks in a barrel because its too tight, because it deforms massively when its fired how would fractions of milimeters make any difference.

Nobody has properly tested this so its all conjecture.
