I think you'd be surprised. Yes there was a low turnout in comparrison with other events but when everyone that was there is asked I think the response to the event will be possitive.
I for one believe the venue was superb.
There are a couple of issues that need to be sorted out...
1. The Millennium need to announce the date and hotel information earlier. This year they waited before taking the gamble as I believe some of the board members were still in doubt. By giving early notice it allows the teams to save over a longer period and also to get cheaper flights and shop around for accomodation.
2. Trade - the trade needed the information they got a little bit earlier, again not the direct fault of the Millennium as they were waiting for the information to come from Turkey.
3. Turks - Although gracious and hospitable hosts the turkish distributors need a little training with what is required for an event like this. Even though instructions are sent, they don't always understand the importance of following them and they jut do their own thing. The paint chiller and the thermo regulated Tarpulin are a good example of this. They have never had to deal with something like this before so we need to help them learn.
4. Turks again - I think the agenst working for the Federation were very good at what they did. Perhaps a little lacking in communication prior to the event but when you booked into the hotel they were ready. I think the "up-charge" of having them handle the hotels was a little pricey considering hotels4u had the 5* a lot cheaper than the quoted price. But then even at 45 euro night that was cheaper than an evening meal and breakfast in one day at a normal event.
In my opinion Turkey is the new Malaga. Those that were there will want to go back and those that weren't will hear the hype.
The reasons I feel people will want to go back to that venue are...
Turf - Best surface to have ever played on - Real grass that looks like but is better than XL turf.
Facilities - All inclusive hotels for around £20 a night per person.
Cost - ok last minute flights are expensive but given the right budgeting time and a flight of around £200, add £140 for a weeks accomodation and food - you have a relatively cheap event. If you can get a sleazy jet type flight for under £100 now it is really cost effective.
If asked, I would vote for another one in Turkey. And I was one of the sceptics initially.
