You don't agree with "Of course, a good level of research and planning would be required to assess the business before hand"
So to take your example to the extreme of having making money as the main goal of the business. Banker A says to Banker B , "Do you fancy making a new kind of trade, unfortunately it is selling debt so there could be some risk involved? "
Banker B says. "There might be risk but think of how much money we could make!!!!!! So lets not bother with the research as that means less time making money."
Several billion dollars traded later................. Whoops......... Looks like we created a recession........Lost my job....... bankrupted my old company
Of course money has to be considered and everyone needs to feed their families but if money is at the top of your goal list, you will compromise whatever product you are selling, taking unnecessary risk, using cheaper inferior materials, poor customer service etc. Compromising your product, compromises your customers and then your business. No business = no money!
Money is a nice side product of a successful business. Successful businesses have a vision. Show me 1 company mission statement that says their main objective is making money!
