i just found this on wikipedia

planet eclipse shocker
"The pneuVentures Shocker was sold up until 1997 when SP redesigned it and started producing it themselves. This redesigned marker, which became known as the Shocker Sport, was released in 1998. It included a number of major revisions to the original design, including a more lightweight profile, improved electronics and grounding, a faster cycling set of internals, and better solenoids. The Shocker Sport was sold from 1998 to 2002, and the design of its external look changed a few times over the years. A few companies even released their own customized versions, mainly the Planet Eclipse Shocker (which was manufacturered by SP for the company Planet Eclipse, which at the time didn't make any markers of their own). Another customized Shocker was the SL Shocker from HyperSportWorks."

Please don't try to be smart, your obviously one of these kiddies who buys whatever is marketted as the best and follows the masses, so it won't work.

The fundamental ego design was copied from intimidators.
The geo, dm's / marq.
Now, regardable markers, from Angel.
Macroless, Luxe or BL, depends how you wan't to look at it, the Luxe did it first, but it was a very poor marker.

So please tell me, what have PE done at all that been innovative for paintball apart from copy the work of other companies?

Looks like brainwash advertising works

Bon have you ever acctually shot a luxe, i don't think so, Bon do you acctually play paintball because when i used to marshall with you just over a year a go, you did'nt play at all.

So stop f*****g talking about guns that you have never shot or owned, and you proberbly never will :rolleyes:

Now PE copied the intimidator in the form of the ego, you can't deny it, an ego is just a timmy with a QEV, a mod which was being done by some timmy owners before PE came along. And one which has been a questionable change. They then mass marketted it and became "the thing to have".

But what have they done that is new? What have they brought to the table that no other manufacturer has?
whilst this may have some truth in it, immitation is the best form of flattery.
however, what PE did new was offer top level support, a manual, and an easy to maintain and highly reliable marker.

Bob long guns lovely as they are, are STILL not shipping with manuals. Nice one.

The ego is the perfect marker for the sheep market as it requires very little looking after, parts are easily available and the customer service is excellent.

That is why the ego has been the most popular marker for the last 4 years. It is a simple as that.
And long may it be so. Two Thirds of your quoted are customer support issues.
If companies cant get their fingers out there ass and support players then they deserve to languish in the arena of low sales. The other, requiring little maintenance, is also highly valued by most players.

How many times have you been at a field where people with Dye guns are sat for an hour figuring out which oring has gone on the bolt, how much lube to use etc. how is that exactly enabling people to play.

sure the DM shoots smoother, but to most people theyd rather have fundamentally a working gun, then worry about how smooth it is later.

granted dye support is excellent, but what matters foremost is whats going on at the field when you are playing in my opinion.

(nb I picked Dye as the example above includes me haha, but the same can be said for others)

The point I was making is,if you are lazy and cannot be bothered to look after your marker or learn how to look after it then buy an ego.
The old wives tales of dm's using loads of orings and taking hours to maintain are rubbish. The problems with dm's was the crappy lube they used to send out with them and people not turning the dwell up a couple of clicks in the cold.Learn how to look after your marker and it will look after you.(this is not directed at you Ian)

There are some great youube vids for the new victory boys that show you a complete strip down lube and rebuild of the engine.

I appreciate the comments, but surely you are looking at it from a negative standpoint "if you are lazy etc". The other side of the coin is "its been well put together and made easy to look after so I dont HAVE to get a PhD in gun tech to use my marker". Bu I guess horses for courses. Some people will always be interested in learning how to tech a gun. Some people will invest that time/money in upkeep (ie sourcing parts from the states) to get their gun running eactly for the reasons you said above such as they shoot smoother or more accurately. Good for those people :) However most people want a simple life. and lets be honest, the vast majority of paintballers arent the brightest (or richest) so their choice is made for them really.

Its kinda like cars. sure alfa romeos look (kinda) cool, but break down a lot. Some people are willing to invest in a platform that has issues purely for the performance they get out of it when it is working. Other people buy a Skoda. (most reliable cars in the Jd survey if im not mistaken)

I think if I were to splurge £800 on a gun Id probably get a BL one, they look fantastic.

Maybe my sheep market comment made my whole post read negative about the ego.

You car comment is perfect.

Some want a car to get you from a to b everyday without fail and nothing more

Others want a car that will get your from a to b, there may be a scary detour to c inbetween but the ride will be far superior.
