Paintball games, regardless of format are won (in the majority) by the projection of power or rather influence on the opposition. If you or team lack confidence, you will be dictated to on field through intimidation (a symptom of lacking confidence). Games are are generally won by the use of firepower or taking real estate, both of which require confidence to perform successfully. Whether living behind your gun or making the moves, teams that lack confidence do not take advantage of these two factors.

What in my (limited) mind is an interesting question, is do "ringers" win games for weak teams, or do they (the team) play better through the pyschological belief the "ringer" gives them an advantage - i.e. an increase in confidence???

Although to be fair, I've been on the Stella tonight.
so your saying i/we should try to impose are selves uppon and dominate the other team?
i think you may have just improved my game :D
shall see how it gose on saterday:)

OOpps, did anybody notice my deliberate mistake???

:)
Yes you offered a Socratic forum, yet you are going to give the answers, and noone will question them.

But then all I know about Socrates is that he loves San Dimas.

OK, my 'deliberate' mistake was putting 'Platonic' and not 'Socratic', for some unknown reason, my brain misplaced Socrates and shoved in its ancient Greek counterpart of Plato ...... oh my, the shame of it, I'll now have to resign from Mensa.....

As for your comments?
I will ask another question and hope some of you can then go onto make the required link.

What overall strategy tends to win more games, defensive or aggressive???

For those you versed in Socratic form, you will now look for the connection with the first question and begin fleshing out the connecting tissue.

PS Bjohnson: the word Platonic is a derivative of Plato, an ancient Greek philosopher, not the planet Pluto :)

it was also the "uppon", "are selves" and "gose" that got me....

i don't think a game can be won with everyone being either aggressive or defensive. each player needs to be sure he has a belief that what he is doing is right and that he is capable of doing that job.

i think a team needs the confidence to know that the aggressive front players believe in what they can achieve, and that those front players are confident that the back players have the belief that they can hold a defensive play at the same time and keep the field locked down to let the front men forward. but the need for those aggressive front players is essential - a timid player who won't make the jump and move up is going to hold back the game.

on saying that the team needs to find the right balance for front and back players, but should also be able to adapt their game plan on field to counter the oppositions playing style. that adaption takes confidence.

without the confidence the team players will not be 100% committed to any play move they make. that can lead to errors, hesitancy, nerves and thus leave the team weaker on field.

these general assertions are true for any team sport - or indeed any group activity. i see it a lot in teaching, where the group doesn't have the self confidence in either themselves individually or as a whole, and the impact on the activity is huge.

what i see with these groups (in teaching) is that it can often take just one individual with the confidence to make decisions to rub off on the rest of the group, and there is an improvement all round. on the opposite end, if their is one kid who is a complete wet blanket they can pull the whole group down around them. and i've seen this on the paintball field too.

When a team overall is playing with a lack of confidence i would say they choose to play more defensively. They are less likely to take the risks that come with playing aggressively, choosing to hang back and let others run into their lanes. However not taking risks and not moving up the field reduces the fields of fire available to them. Just playing the lanes doesn't mean that you will definitely shoot the players out, but moving up the field and into new positions gives you a much better chance of making those kills, thus playing aggresively would in my opinion win more games.

But maybe you're messing with us all. Maybe its playing aggressively or defensively makes no difference its all in the state of a teams mind as to whether they will win or lose.
