In true Socratic form, I am gonna attempt to teach by asking certain questions.
If people are unfamiliar with the Socratic form of teaching, it comprises of posing selected questions with a view to provoking a line of thinking or at least provoking different angles of thought .....

I'll interject as and when and to get the ball rolling, I'll ask the following question:-

How [and why] can a lack of confidence impact negatively on a team's results?

I like your style.

A lack of confidence can cripple a team in many ways. On the field, it causes hesitation, not making moves necessary to win games (caused by lack of trust in your backs, for instance, or fear of being shot out), and can lead to players not doing their job because they're worried their team mates aren't doing theirs. Off the field, it can cause resentment between team members, a lack of commitment to the team (sinking ship mentality), and lack-luster trainings. It's horrible and can easily become a rut your team falls into. It's a problem with my team at the minute and we're having trouble getting out of it.

Stops them putting a real effort which would come with being confident into their training, leading to them being less capable players. Also, they are more likely to turn down offers to train or play with better teams, which loses them valuable experience.

That any good?

As I have found, confidence in life is everything. I think a team in any sport that lacks confidence, lacks determination. If you don't believe that you can win you never will. That's why all the successful people in the world have complete belief in their abilities and total confidence that they can do anything. My mother always told me I could do anything and it's the way I look at life and I rarely lose.

Paintball games, regardless of format are won (in the majority) by the projection of power or rather influence on the opposition. If you or team lack confidence, you will be dictated to on field through intimidation (a symptom of lacking confidence). Games are are generally won by the use of firepower or taking real estate, both of which require confidence to perform successfully. Whether living behind your gun or making the moves, teams that lack confidence do not take advantage of these two factors.

What in my (limited) mind is an interesting question, is do "ringers" win games for weak teams, or do they (the team) play better through the pyschological belief the "ringer" gives them an advantage - i.e. an increase in confidence???

Although to be fair, I've been on the Stella tonight.

However a low result could be motivating to a team which may then wish to beat or improve on the previous score, contuning to bond the team and bring them together as they work to overcome a common goal.

Confidence binds really good players together and forms a team.

This is why you could pick a team of random players from various top yank teams, put tape over their mouths, and they would still be able to beat many other ("unhandicapped") teams because each player would have a very high level of confidence that each teammate is going to do his job as expected, at the right time and in turn enable them to do theirs.

Without complete confidence between players there won't be a team or a team able to realise its potential and that is sure to affect results...

Lack of confidence in your team mates' abilities will lead to you checking what they are doing, as well as trying to do your own job. In five man, one person simply cannot coordinate all the players on the field, and if every player is checking every other player, then not one player is concentrating on their own jobs.

If you have confidence your team mates are doing their jobs then you'll be able to give your own task 100% focus.
