I vote no, Im with Chef on this one really, it's upto the buyer, if you know and trust the seller, there is no real issue, if you don't and want to pay for some protection then the option is always there.

It's a bit like postage, you can pay for insurance or not, make it optional to the buyers.

Thanks alot Dave ;)

Im sure ill be using that website in future!! :D
To add the 4% onto £17.65

multiply the amount by 1.xx

xx being the percentage. eg. 1.04 is 4 percent

So that's 17.65 x 1.04 = 18.36

But as i said it's 40p to every ten pound and 4p to every pound so that's 18 x 4, or 8 times 4 + 40.

You don't have to be spot on here, it's not like your life depends on it.

And yes i can do the maths on countdown
<super late sneaky ninja edit>

After re-reading your edit Tom that does actually make clear sense to me!! :D

Have you ever thought of teaching adult maths in the evenings? ;)

(I had to do adult numeracy level 2 for work not long ago, barely passed lol)

Its a big NO vote from me :)

The method of payment is surely a matter for the buyer and seller to agree on. If you dont know or trust a seller enough, then simply dont use the personal payment method. Buyers have the option already to pay the fees if they are in any doubt

I appreciate that the mods have a lot of work to do when something goes wrong but its fairly clear that no assistance can be expected if the personal payment method is used and I accept that. This could also be added to the classifieds rules for those in doubt perhaps

and for those who were off school when they taught percentages, there is this...

Lump, maybe just make a sticky at the top of the For Sale section about the lack of cover if you use personal payment. You could also include how to start a claim on paypal as well.

Like you said lump some of us have been here a while and know the score, and usually know who we are buying from, so in those instances there is no issue, and if there ever is we know how to get hold of the seller etc If im dealing with someone I dont know, I go the insured option or deal face to face if possible.

I have voted no as i give a potential buyer the choice and he can add the 4% if he wants to. But then again i know i'm honest. If i'm buying and spending in hundreds rather than pounds i'd always add the fees.
